![Alto Research is a dedicated research and development center of @alto.
Its purpose is to drive innovation that contributes to the broader Alto ecosystem.
It serves as our hub for experimentation, documentation and creative exploration. Where our ideas turn into prototypes and prototypes turn into possibilities.
We know this is another speck in the universe, but if you’re reading this we’re glad you’re here.

[07.22.26 Note] If you’re thinking you’ve read this before - you probably have. We experienced months of account troubles starting in December 2025. Unfortunately, we had to start over. But we are back and we are not going anywhere. taken in EARTH by @alto.research](https://s3.imginn.com/752952194_18058067207533419_524082685765830946_n.jpg?t51.82787-15/752952194_18058067207533419_524082685765830946_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_p1290x1290_tt6&_nc_cat=109&ig_cache_key=Mzk0NjYwMDM4MjMzMTI3NzM0MQ%3D%3D.3-ccb7-5&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=58cdad&efg=eyJ2ZW5jb2RlX3RhZyI6IkZFRUQueHBpZHMuMjUwMC5zZHIucmVndWxhcl9waG90by5DMyJ9&_nc_ohc=DgqOFvxYL3wQ7kNvwFB2GjU&_nc_oc=Adongziyk1xM1PsDtTfk5Ft_S_5h6JBIXW5tyTp37MyWB_q3eooAvFWzE4CkNe8XBstvRjuL3mm20Onlk-xlylQO&_nc_ad=z-m&_nc_cid=0&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw6-2.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=B71EIB9QRlXKvxgYWdJpuA&_nc_ss=7a22e&oh=00_AQMTLZhBECACSALqAnHwPxq-I80fN1AdPD5fgMvYCRegBw&oe=6AD89A82)
![In 2014, we came up with an idea to design & manufacture a case for the iPhone that would have a built-in speaker, protecting your phone and providing louder, higher-quality sound anywhere. Andres had even made a sketch [Slide 1] that showcases its conceptual design & features.
If you look closely, you can see the ‘Alto’ wordmark used as a battery level indicator, representing 25% per letter.
Upon brainstorming names for the concept we landed on Alto, with two justifying reasons:
1 ‘Alto’ in Spanish can mean ‘loud’ (among other meanings)
2 We both could speak Spanish
We got quotes for design & prototyping the case but in the end, never made it. However, the name stuck.
We continued on to new ideas & ventures, with Alto Visuals LLC [Slide 2] being the first official legal entity we filed for.
Unintentionally, and only realized a year into using the name, we discovered it also represents our initials — (A)ndres (L)oucas (T)silas (O)’Beirne [Slide 3].
Upon this discovery, Alto was officially cemented & is the literal & figurative representations of our lives intertwined by creativity, craft, adventure & business.
Now, Alto (standalone) will represent our overarching brand, with its meaning continuing to evolve as it enters this new era, reflecting our collective ethos and perspective on the world. by @alto.research](https://s3.imginn.com/759775885_18059989424533419_4842053188190573886_n.jpg?t51.82787-15/759775885_18059989424533419_4842053188190573886_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_p1290x1290_tt6&_nc_cat=101&ig_cache_key=Mzk1MDkyNTcyODA3ODQ0MTM3Mg%3D%3D.3-ccb7-5&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=58cdad&efg=eyJ2ZW5jb2RlX3RhZyI6IkNBUk9VU0VMX0lURU0ueHBpZHMuMjAwMC5zZHIucmVndWxhcl9waG90by5DMyJ9&_nc_ohc=Hts8V98tLNYQ7kNvwEXOi-c&_nc_oc=AdpWgeZgYRlB5UU1D9zb2YfYP9HkG_VsxoQI8kHCKP0j8nM0MXRdrZZ7-IZ5CcLsZmG1QLWXF-AF0KhSi2Nt-22j&_nc_ad=z-m&_nc_cid=0&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw6-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=B71EIB9QRlXKvxgYWdJpuA&_nc_ss=7a22e&oh=00_AQO2DMJsFEX_lzIKWvUFMYzcpRa3196cM9QWyHMnMFRBdQ&oe=6AD89729)
