A few hard things living in KoreašŸ’

Some silly.
Some unexpected.
But also some that were surprisingly difficult to adjust to.

Adjusting to cultural differences is expected when moving to a country you didn’t grow up in.

But moving to Korea as a gyopo (Korean born overseas) has another layer of difficulty. There are some invisible blurred lines of expectations that others have of you and that you put on yourself being Korean.

Along with those difficulties are also discoveries of what it means to be Korean and creating deeper ties to the motherland.

Anyone else here relate? by @altscript_pod

It’s actually incredible seeing K-culture be so loved today.

We can laugh at these questions now, but they also capture what it was like growing up South Korean in the West when so little was known about South Korea.

For many millennial gyopos, there’s something deeply healing about watching K-pop, K-dramas, K-food, K-beauty, K-fashion, language, and traditions be embraced around the world.

Back then, it was difficult to explain our culture or even our identity.

Within a few short decades, many of the things that once made us feel different are being celebrated globally.

It’s hard to describe how meaningful that shift feels.

This reel is a playful look back, but it’s also a celebration of how far we’ve come, and of a future our younger selves probably never imagined.

To everyone discovering Korean culture and showing it so much love today—thank you. šŸ¤ by @altscript_pod

Try one of these 4 if you’re stressed and burnt out.

Remember, it’s not about doing more. It’s about doing things that give you life. by @altscript_pod

What’s one habit, mindset, or situation you had to let go of while recovering from burnout?

Here are some helpful things to avoid from experience:

1. Avoid throwing a self-pity party and staying stuck in what went wrong.

2. Avoid comparing yourself to others and their timelines.

3. Avoid saying yes to too many things when what your body actually needs is rest.

4. Avoid overstimulating environments and situations that leave you feeling overwhelmed rather than restored.

Burnout recovery isn’t just about adding healthy habits. Sometimes it’s about removing the things that keep you disconnected from yourself. The more I protected my energy, the more space I had to heal. by @altscript_pod

THINGS TO AVOID IF YOU’RE BURNT OUT

If you’re recovering from burnout, here are 5 things JK recommends avoiding:

1. Don’t jump straight into goal-setting. Recovery isn’t a productivity project.
2. Don’t spend time with people who drain your energy. Protect your peace.
3. Don’t be overly critical of yourself. You’re healing, not performing.
4. Don’t escape through constant distractions. What needs attention will eventually catch up with you.
5. Don’t overcommit. Give yourself permission to take things one step at a time.

One of the hardest lessons I learned was that burnout recovery isn’t about getting back to who you were before. It’s about creating a healthier way forward so you don’t end up in the same place again.

Are you trying to push through burn out?

A few things that helped:

1.Ā Focusing on health. Eating well and exercising to help lower cortisol levels and balance hormones.

2. When possible, sleeping until your body wakes naturally. A gentle wake-up can make the transition into the day feel less stressful than an abrupt alarm.

3. Journaling and praying regularly to process what happened and why was just as important as resting.

4. Reduce unnecessary busyness. Protect your energy by saying no to commitments that leave you feeling more depleted.

5. Prioritizing on what matters most. Investing time in family, friends, and faith helped restore perspective.

Looking back, burnout wasn’t just exhaustion. It was a sign that something in my life needed attention. Recovery started when I stopped treating the symptoms and started addressing the cause. by @altscript_pod

What helped you?

For a long time, I thought success required constant momentum. Recovery taught me that sometimes the most important thing you can do is pause long enough to remember what’s actually important.

5 things that helped:

1. Finding hobbies without turning them into goals or side hustles.
2. Reducing my to-do list and focusing only on what truly mattered.
3. Spending time alone and allowing myself to move more slowly.
4. Talking about what happened instead of pretending I was okay - acceptance was a big part of healing.
5. Returning to my priorities: friends, family, spirituality, and health.

Don’t work for free!

Definitely not in this economy.

People used to throw around that pro-bono work is how you get more work. But times are different, and that culture has actually hurt creatives the most.

Creatives are taken advantage of and constantly having to prove their worth. The reality is, creatives are the ones forming culture. We are the taste-makers and trendsetters. Know your worth. Don’t let non-creatives determine your worth for you. By doing so, it’ll not only help you, but it’ll serve the wider creative economy.

Thoughts?šŸ’

As millennials, we’ve been called a soft generation. But the amount of massive change, technological leaps, recession and world events we’ve gone through has not only made us resilient to the times, but also exhausted.

We chat more about this in our latest episode. Link in bio!

What do you think?

We discuss if millennials are the most resilient and adaptable generation because of how much change we’ve experienced in our lifetime. One of the factors being the first generation to bridge the pre-internet and post-internet world.

New episode out now! We talk about whether millennials are the most resilient generation, and how growing up through constant, rapid change formed us into a generation that expects, welcomes and instigates change.

We are the generation that chose to normalize the topic of mental health
To break patterns instead of carrying them forward
To do things differently even without a clear roadmap

It might be why so many of us feel both resilient and tired at the same time.
