Would you do this adventure, or would you be saying “absolutely NOT”?! 😂👇

Sometimes the best memories are made when you step WAY outside your comfort zone.

Life is too short to always play it safe. Say yes to the adventure. Try the thing that scares you. Take your kids with you. You might just discover how capable you really are.

Here’s to raising kids who aren’t afraid to be brave.

Chuckwalla Wall rappel anchor rebolting complete! ✅ SGCC gave six rappel anchors on the wall fresh hardware, swapping old, corroded bolts for full glue-in stainless steel wave bolts.

Thank you to the ASCA @asca_bolt_replacement for donating the hardware for this project, and Snow Canyon State Park @snowcanyonstatepark for approving the project!

Thanks to SGCC President Todd Perkins @climbforever23 for putting in the time and effort to get each anchor rebolted on August 21st.

Please consider becoming a member of the St George Climbers Coalition or making a donation to support projects like this. Link in bio 🙏

One rappel. Multiple perspectives.

As you descend, your view changes with every few feet. From the top, you're focused on your setup and the edge. Midway down, you begin to see the canyon from an entirely different angle. Near the bottom, you can finally appreciate the route you've just traveled.

This is one of the reasons I encourage students to pause and look around. Rappelling isn't just about getting from top to bottom—it's an opportunity to better understand the terrain, evaluate anchors and rope paths, and experience a landscape that most people never get to see from this perspective.

Every descent builds confidence. Every moment develops awareness. And every canyon leaves you with memories and experiences that stay with you long after you pull the rope and hike out.

Took my camera canyoneering again....just like all the other times!!

I'm definitely not a photographer, but canyons have a way of making you slow down. The light changes by the minute, the sandstone tells a story, and there are so many little details that are easy to miss when you're focused on the next rappel.

Taking a few photos helps me appreciate those moments even more. It's a chance to share just a small piece of what makes these places so incredible.

One of the best parts of teaching and introducing people to canyoneering is watching them notice the same things for themselves—the beauty, the adventure, and the appreciation for these wild places.

There are a lot of ways to rig releasable, and every canyoneer seems to have a favorite.

Releasable systems give you options.

*Adjust rope length
*Lower a stuck rappeller
*Adapt to changing conditions
*Increase your rescue capabilities

Which setup do you use most often—and why?

Drop it in the comments. I'm always interested in hearing what people prefer and the reasoning behind it. by @alturadventures

Sounds of a canyoneer

Sometimes the best part of a canyon isn't what you see—it's what you hear.

The crunch of gravel under your feet.
The splash of water.
The scrape of sandstone.
The laughter echoing through narrow walls.
The sound of adventure unfolding one step at a time.

Turn the volume up and come explore the canyon with us. by @alturadventures
