Tour is my favorite thing and this one didn't disappoint. Thanks to everyone for coming, booking, hosting and playing with me, especially @doublelibra92 (2nd slide IYKYK) who is both great company and a very good musician and songwriter. S/o to the Summum Pyramid, the only cool thing in all of SLC. 3 more AMAZING shows this summer (w/ @nyxynyxcultclubmembershipguide @fka_hennen @badhistorymonth, @oldtablemusic @ggordongritty, @benjaminhersey @emilyinpuppets @rattlord____ma & more then I'm stuck in Boston for another semester. But as tour always reminds me, and as the anonymous Atlantan graffiti artist from the Krog Street tunnel said, "Life is worth living." Also shoutout to @bedbugofficial for booking me at their house where I had the audience perform the alphabet to the tune of the national anthem with no practice or preparation (co-credit for this idea to Rachel). I AM SO EXCITED TO KEEP SINGING FOR ALL OF YOU AND SEEING MY FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD AS OFTEN AS I CAN! THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME LIVE MY ABSOLUTE DREAM! by @alwaysbackdown

I don't know how to express how exciting and amazing this is. I've been booking shows for 25 years and this is my number one dream possible lineup. @joespub is doing me a huge favor by letting me have my birthday party there again this year. I did it 4 years ago and it was the coolest day ever and this is going to top it because an idea I have had for years is finally going to happen. You're going to see the best songwriter ever @themagfields backed up by the best choir ever @youngatheartchorus (for 15 min) as well as The Best Thing Ever. You'll also see the best musician ever @bill.taft, and a comedian who makes me laugh so hard every time I see or even remember him @ikeminded. This will be the best 75 minutes of the year and maybe of all time. Last time Stephin and I played Joe's Pub four years ago (see pinned post!) it sold out. Seats are reserved so get your tickets now unless you hate me and want me to die. by @alwaysbackdown

The Best Thing Ever in The Shortest Tour Ever by @alwaysbackdown

Ben Tan is dead. He was an amazing pianist and fearless performer who was always up for collaborating. One of my favorite Ben stories is the night our band Style did a Flipper cover set for Halloween and Ben's Halloween costume was a white guy with dreads. He got one of those stupid Rasta hats that has dreadlocks included and then put on white makeup so he would be in white face. At the time I did not understand how truly genius of a Halloween costume this was. I wish I had a picture of his face but all I have is the side of him holding the guitar. The video of "I'm gonna miss you" is from Ben's last club show ever, 6 months ago at the Midway cafe. He played piano on the studio version and the live version that are both on my records. Midway Cafe is also where his memorial show will be this Saturday, perfectly timed. After that show, we went to Ben's apartment and stood around the piano that he had a crane drag in through the wall and sang songs for Christmas. It was the most wholesome and Christmassy memory I've had in a long time. His mom filmed us doing "you don't know what it's like" and her singing along always makes me cry. I never even liked that song before. That was such a special night and I'm so glad he got to have everyone come over for it. Another special night was his birthday show at the Jeannie Johnston, where Lurchiana did his only ever performance. The band I started after Style ended, when I realized I could play guitar again, was called Request Freebird. The whole point of it was that our album was called 'Sorry I don't know that one' and we would never perform that song. Last month, Ben turned to me in his hospice bed and said "if anything happens to me you have to play 'Freebird'." A week or two later we spontaneously tried it. I had never even sung this song once in my life. His mom did a nice job filming that. I'm going to miss you Ben. I know it's a cliche, but I just don't like cancer. by @alwaysbackdown

HUGE NEWS THAT NO ONE KNOWS:
6 years ago, I started filming a comedy special/artist retrospective. It was an amazing live show, including a guest spot from my #1 biggest hero: Stephin Merritt. At the end, I said "this was so perfect that I don't care what else happens afterwards."
That was the day the first case of COVID-19 was discovered in China.
I apologize to everyone for inadvertently starting this horrid pandemic.
A year and a half later, I did another comedy show, with Joe Pera, Please Don't Destroy (the day they got signed to SNL), and the live debut of @depthsofwikipedia .
I brag to everyone for inadvertently starting Annie's live career (see her next show in NYC!).
I spent the next 4 years editing those two shows, and a lot of other footage from my career as a performer, into a 38 minute film, which is SO good and I'm SO proud of it (because it really contains most of my life's work in it). It includes contributions from Josh Safdie, Benny Safdie, Mark Duplass, Stephin Merritt, Joe Pera, Frankie Cosmos, Sidney Gish, Ike Ufomadu, and Asperger's Are Us. It was filmed by Zach Treitz and Christian Hansen, who just won an Emmy for The Octopus Murders miniseries.
TODAY, for the FIRST TIME EVER,
You can actually SEE this film.
There is a new streaming service called Relay.
It is available to download (worldwide) on Apple Apps, Google Play apps, Amazon Apps, Fire Stick, or Roku.
https://pickrelay.com/t/ehed-pe9c/noah-britton-the-best-stuff-ive-ever-done
Relay is the ONLY place to see my special, anywhere.
It has a lot of other stuff on it (including the Asperger's Are Us documentary movie), and you can set up a free trial if you want. Otherwise it costs $5/month.
I'd love to screen the film somewhere IRL (message me if you can make that happen somewhere), but anyone who would like to see my life's work film can, right now, on @pickrelay
This is not the official cover but I like this picture my mom took of me as a kid so so much that I'm going to promote the film with it. I hope you watch the film and rate it on letterboxd and rottentomatoes and IMDB!
This was more work than anything I've ever done so I hope you love it!!!! Laugh and cry! by @alwaysbackdown
