I’m not wearing an orange shirt in this pic, but I am giving away one of these hats!

At the beginning of the year I managed to order TWO by accident, to our US address, and by the time it came home it was too late to return, so I figured I’d save it to giveaway at some point. Today seemed like an okay day!

Part of Truth and Reconciliation is economic reconciliation, from the government, but also through the rest of us. Social media makes it remarkably easy to support Indigenous businesses and creators, and that’s what this giveaway is about.

The first day of school (in our board) is a few days away, and I am jacked up with feelings. Like, I feel the exact same way I did the Summer before Boden started Kindergarten; so much hope and pride but also anxiety and stress and something close to dread. All of which I’ve been working incredibly hard to keep away from him.

He’s going into grade 7, and starting middle school is a big deal for everyone! But it’s an extra big deal for us because he’s been learning at home, on and off (though, grade 6 was fully ‘on’) for the last 4 years.

When I mention homeschooling my kid, the immediate assumption is that it’s for political and/ or religious reasons. Anyone who knows me knows, he’s likely had a far more ‘woke’ education than anyone else in public school system has had.

We were homeschooling for mental health reasons - I couldn’t fix his anxiety for him (and I’ve never been so desperate to fix something) but I could take away the most apparent trigger. So going to school was put on hold indefinitely, and thus began our foray into every available youth mental health/ therapy program I could find, and casually learning at home.

We paid out of pocket for his PsychEd testing, and we have spent the last 2 years getting comfy with his diagnoses (multiple chapters of anxiety, including School Avoidance, which is a real thing! OCD, very mild ASD and a tricky little SLD), his meds, and figuring out how he absorbs new knowledge best.

Aaaaand now we’re here! With all our fingers and toes crossed! And I was hoping ya’ll might feel inclined to do me a favor, just one more thing to help make this transition as smooth as possible-

If you could leave a comment with some words of wisdom, a little encouragement (it doesn’t have to be anxiety specific, just back to school/ middle school thoughts) or a few thumbs up, I’ll print them all out for him to read this weekend; make sure his cup is just the fullest! It would mean the world!

AUGUST faves, saves & gold stars

We said ‘good bye’ to my sister and her little fam, and welcomed my brother back home- they overlapped for a few days, and it was so special to be all together again, after a few years

We single handedly kept watermelon farmers in business

I got little Lenny all to myself for a few perfect hours- a lunch date, reading in the floor of my happy place, and wittle facials in Sephora

We sat with stingrays!! (And were reminded why we never drive into Toronto..)

I was treated to a whole day on a beautiful beach with a beautiful friend- I super needed it, and I’m so grateful

We finished the soccer season, way on top!

I had dental work done without an Ativan! I haven’t consciously worked through panic, drug-free, in a long time

We had some excellent family dinners

Another month without being skunked! Bless!
