It’s happening TOMORROW!✨

Here’s a little snippet of Récit 2 by Marilyn Shrude, a short recitative for violin and piano that she wrote for her daughter, violinist Maria Sampen, who also gave its premiere.

Shrude’s distinctive harmonic language creates a wonderfully mystical and meditative sound world, giving this intimate piece a particularly haunting quality.

This piece pays homage to Olivier Messiaen, whose Vingt regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus is briefly acknowledged at the very end of the piece.

Come and hear Récit 2 in its entirety tomorrow as part of @elperro.andaluz ‘s #4tel12 series✨

Next Sunday!! 🤩🥳😎🤓🥰

You’re hearing snippets of “mo(ve)ment for 2: Choreophonie - Schatten/Spiegeltanz by Reiko Füting.

The piece consists of 21 micro-movements: some for violin or piano solo, others for the duo. Within its somewhat angelic and transcendental sound world, quotations from songs by Debussy, Mahler, Strauss, and Hugo Wolf emerge here and there. Yet despite these fleeting references, Reiko’s unique musical aesthetic manifests itself strongly throughout the piece.

Come experience our Work in Progress on Sunday, September 6 in #4tel12 Series by @elperro.andaluz 🔥

In two weeks 🎶🤩🥳🤓🥰

Duo Tesserae will appear in the #4tel12 series on Sunday, September 6, with our program “Work in Progress.” We’ll present newly learned repertoire as we prepare for our upcoming tour.

The excerpt we’re sharing here is from music to three photo-paintings by G. Richter by Azerbaijani composer Turkar Gasimzada. The first movement is inspired by Richter’s Sternbild: fragile sonorities, silence, and intricate gestures gradually unfold a musical image of the painting.

Come experience our Work in Progress and join us for an open exchange about the collaborative process between composers and performers!

[Save the Date] Duo Tesserae will be appearing in El Perro Andaluz’s 4tel12 Concert Series on Sunday, September 6 at 11:15!

Our program, “Work in Progress,” offers a glimpse into our artistic process. Alongside preparing for our upcoming tour, we are currently collaborating with 12 young composers on newly written works. This concert is an opportunity to step back into repertoire that has already begun to evolve through performance, while continuing to explore new ideas.

We’ll perform works by Reiko Füting, Marilyn Shrude, Turkar Gasimzada, and, once again, Wilfried Krätzschmar.

We often forget the value of performing a piece more than once. Every performance teaches us something new, and sharing music with an audience offers insights that simply can’t emerge in the rehearsal.

The concert will also open up a conversation about collaboration with composers, the rehearsal process, and the challenges of creating music together. Is genuine collaboration really possible, or is it ultimately a utopian ideal?

Come join us, hear these works in progress, and be part of the conversation!

We had the honor of working with Rebecca Saunders on her Duo during her residency at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden this past May.

It was a privilege to perform the work with her guidance and to receive such generous feedback afterward—she told us it was among her favorite performances of the piece 🥳

We are deeply grateful for the experience and look forward to bringing this work to future audiences.

The concert program “Klangmorphologien” opened with “Rabba in Sard…” by Thuon Burtevitz. The meticulously prepared piano and violin create a unique sonority and a mystical sound world.

We had the privilege of working with the composer Thuon Burtevitz in person a few weeks ago. Her piece “Rabba in Sard…” explores the idea of “Rabba” as a free structure within “Sard,” an ordered one. Using her own invented language, the journey of the piece brings this concept to life: the violin and piano move largely independently, yet remain subtly connected.

Working with her opened up an entirely new sound world—one with its own unique ecosystem. I hope you’ll come and experience what I mean this Saturday!
