Over the weekend my pageant sisters & I had the blessing of staying at Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae hosted by @jessicatyson08 on behalf of @brave_nz Māhia.

During our time there, we listened to the stories of the Whakapapa from the Marae in all the pou (carvings). We learned about the history of Aotearoa. I learned that in the 1970s, music from artists like Bob Marley was used as a vessel to cope with the oppression Māori faced with the words
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your right
Get up, stand up
Don’t give up the fight
That gave them the strength to persevere.

Acknowledging the heart of Aotearoa, that being the iwi, is integral to preserving our culture when representing our nation.

I truly hope everyone gets the chance to have the unique experience of a Marae stay. There’s something unexplainable about how it makes you feel and the connection you build with your surroundings. Being on this journey with my girls was so special. Tēnā rawa atu koe Jess for your time in making our experience unforgettable, the feeling of home away from home is hard to come by, but you made it possible. Yupaychani 🌾

Something I’ve been thinking about lately:

Before an idea becomes a business, a career, a project, or even a life you want to create, it exists in your imagination first.

I recently read Napoleon Hill’s words on how our thoughts become ideas, our ideas become plans, and those plans can eventually become reality. His point that “the beginning… is in your imagination” really stayed with me.

Then, during the Purpose panel at the @startupclubnz Summit, Sam Stubbs, Co-founder of Simplicity, shared:

“Life will reward the optimistic. I have never met a successful pessimist.”

And, it made me think about how connected the two are.

Imagination allows you to see what could be possible. Optimism gives you the belief to pursue it. And action is what turns it into something real.
