trigger warning! this does discuss eating disorders and may be distressing to some

this song is perhaps the most vulnerable song i've written & the song i am most terrified to release because it delves into a part of myself that i have never shared before because i am ashamed but i also know that i am not alone and that deeply saddens me.

i am through the thick of it so please know that you can get help and you don't have to do this alone. no matter what that voice in your head tells you, you are loved & you are worthy 🫶 by @alyssa.callander

behind the song | just a girl 🏠

i wrote just a girl about how it feels (for me) to live with anxiety. society wants us to fit into this image of "normal" but i couldn't cope with these standards. i had crashed and burnt, i was different and it brought unwanted attention in my direction. i was already an anxious person, then i got my tic because of my anxiety which only brought me more anxiety worried about how i would be perceived by my peers. the journey back to school was one of the most difficult things i have ever done. every fibre of my being was screaming, telling me i was in danger, in a constant state of panic, of fight or flight when in reality i was completely safe and exactly where i was supposed to be.

i will forever be grateful to my school and those who supported me through those turbulent times...i seriously couldn't have done it without you and i'm so glad now that i can say i did it. by @alyssa.callander

behind the song | just a girl 🏠

this is one of my first memories of having a panic attack & was the catalyst to the start of my mental health journey.

it's bittersweet in the fact that i wouldn't wish this feeling/experience upon anyone, but at the same time, it made me learn about myself, about how my brain works, and how to best take care of me in ways that little me having these panic attacks (not realising they were panic attacks back then) never could.

i personally associate my panic attacks with an overwhelm of anxiety something i try to convey in the lyrics of just a girl. we can't be perfect all the time. i cry (sometimes in public), i burnout, i make mistakes, and so on, these aren't things i'm proud of but make me human because at the end of the day i'm just a girl. by @alyssa.callander

we all have things we struggle with & i personally believe that it is so important to figure out ways to make it easier for yourself rather than to torture yourself through something.

for me thats writing things down to communicate to others in situations where i get anxious or to write songs to process things for myself and part of my journey is coming to terms that this is OKAY.

We took to the streets with one little mission: to spread kindness, spark smiles, and remind people that even the smallest gestures can make a difference.

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week, we also wanted to shine a light on the importance of checking in on one another and making space for conversations that matter.

A special shoutout to Alyssa for using her voice and songwriting to advocate for mental health awareness, and for her newly released song that adds even more meaning to this campaign.

Because you never know what someone might be going through, and sometimes, a little kindness goes further than we realise.

please take care of yourself and know that there is help if you need it. neither of us are medical professionals we are just speaking based on our personal experiences.

we go quite deep in this conversation & the highlight to me was that even though we were just two people our experiences and relationships with food are vastly different...now imagine a world full of people, everyone's journey is unique and entirely their own so please have grace with yourself.

this conversation was inspired by the lyric, what's one less bite, in my song girl in the mirror (coming out october 22nd!) by @alyssa.callander

as per usual we went on a tangent (my favourite part) and discovered that after all we are just girls. life is scary. adulting is scary. but we give it our best and show up everyday despite feeling anxious.
