The Last Special Thing is giving back!! For every copy of TLST sold in October, I’ll be donating $2 to Safe Harbor Coronado.

Writing this book, I wanted to accurately reflect what the spiral of experimentation is like. Most of the time, it doesn’t start with a stranger, and it doesn’t end in an immediate catastrophe. It’s a slippery slope with struggles that can extend for years.

I volunteered at Safe Harbor back in 2012, and it’s my privilege to give back to them.

Are you an Amelia or an Izzie?

I'm definitely an Izzie, but I LOVE reading about girls like Amelia. Gives Gossip Girl vs. Gilmore Girls vibes, and you can't go wrong with either!

Booked and busy… interviewing authors?!

Alyssa K. Burns (@alyssakburns ), the author of Irrelevant Situations, is an author writing coming-of-age young adult/new adult fiction with characters navigating messy choices and the blurred line between self-discovery and self-destruction.

I was so thankful to sit down over video and chat with Alyssa about her book, her writing process, advice for situationship survivors, advice for aspiring and debut authors, how music plays a role in her writing process and this series, and any upcoming works in progress.

I was incredibly thankful to receive an early copy of Irrelevant Situations. I heard this book wasn’t a typical romance book and featured a situationship. And that alone intrigued me. And it ended up being a five star read. It’s truly such a great story — Alyssa curated each sentence, each word, to tell not only Evan and Izzie’s love story, but Izzie’s journey of self-discovery.

STORY TIME- Alyssa didn’t get into Smooch Pit in 2026, but instead of feeling sad, she felt relieved. She was looking for a sign to either keep pursuing trad, which Smooch Pit would have done, or to take her manuscript and her dreams and make them come true herself. Smooch Pit was her sign.

Two books and one year later, she’s never looked back.
