My wife and I did over a year of fertility treatment to finally get our big fat positive after what felt like forever. Looking back, all of the pain and heartache was 100% worth it as it brought us to our perfect baby boy. To anyone out there struggling while trying to conceive, your time will come, no matter how long the journey may be, and I promise once it happens, everything you went through to get to that point will be completely worth it. Thank you to my wife for going through this journey with her head held high and for birthing the most beautiful baby boy. Biology is the least of what makes any of us a parent.

As a same sex couple you go through so many obstacles and check so many boxes to have children. Not because you choose to, so that you’re prepared, but because you have to in order to protect your family.

As the non-biological parent you have to take it even further to ensure your legal rights to your own child because being alongside your partner for the entire process isn’t enough.

Today I am seen. 1,030 days after the birth of my son, I am finally, legally, my son’s parent. I can finally continue my parenting journey without having this weight on my shoulders and I can finally look at my son and say with full confidence that nobody can take being his parent away from me.

Happy Adoption Day, Oliver! I would choose to be your “dada” in every lifetime. 💖
