Together with the clients, we chose to preserve a few relics at the Chäsimatt—Whether they evoke nostalgia, spark curiosity, or invite critique, we hope they serve as simple conversation starters: playful gestures that bring people together and help shape a sense of identity and community.

The old petrol station has been transformed into a flexible covered space, featuring casual pull-down bar tables integrated into the existing columns for small apéros, as well as removable curtains that can convert the area into a stage for special events. While its function has completely changed, the petrol station still retains the aesthetic character of what it once was.

Sonnenhof Südwest Emmen / Studienauftrag, 2024 / In collaboration with Christoph Wey Landschaftsarchitekten.

Study for a housing densification project in Emmen, Canton Lucerne. Four coupled timber buildings are positioned along the edge of the inner courtyard shared by all the neighbours. The Gemeinschaftsraum stands in the centre of this open space where the pedestrian paths intersect, acting as a social magnet and a flexible place to be appropriated by the residents. taken in Luzern, Switzerland by @am.architects

What happens when timber, clay and circular construction come together?
Join us on Tuesday, 9 June, for a behind-the-scenes tour of the transformation of Alti Chäsi in Rotkreuz.
Together with @oxara.earth, @landisbau and @kuengholzbau, we've developed a wood-and-clay ceiling cast directly on site — exploring new possibilities for low-carbon construction.
We'll also visit the transformed petrol station and the House of Fire with its rammed-earth bench.

AMA research trip this year was all about earthen buildings💫! We spent two inspiring days visiting some of the important key projects located in the eastern part of Switzerland and the Vorarlberg region of Austria, with a workshop and tour of Martin Rauch‘s house and studio in Schlins.

“The residential complex is conceived as a composition of four interconnected building sections. Each building section differs slightly from the others and also features differentiated materials. This design strategy cleverly breaks up the large scale of the complex. 1st Prize!!🥇 -ON Y VA- Cooperative Housing Development on Luzernerstrasse, Littau / Invited competition, 2025 / Collaboration with EDER Landschaftsarchitektur.

The project responds to the municipality’s long-term urban densification plans. Mirrored and staggered L-shaped volumes relate to the large-scale developments to the south, while open spaces and a single-story kindergarten pavilion create a gentle transition to the lower-density residential area to the north. The layout gives rise to a generous, quiet courtyard protected from the heavy traffic on the south and provides a densely landscaped communal garden that benefits both residents and the surrounding neighborhood.
The ground floor is activated through a mix of shared programs, ateliers and flexible spaces for gastronomic and commercial uses. by @am.architects

A total of 97 dwellings are planned, offering a diverse range of apartment sizes and typologies that respond to the socio-spatial needs of a broad tenant base. Shared communal spaces—such as the laundry room, music room, sauna, and workshop—are strategically placed at key intersections of vertical and horizontal circulation, enhancing accessibility and fostering informal social encounters. The simple yet precise geometry of the plan allows for flexible layouts and easy adaptation to future conversions. by @am.architects
