I was honoured to attend the launch of 'The Smoke After The Palest Depression', a collection of poems by David Duncan, at the Parish Centre in Portlaoise.

David (1981–2024) found a powerful voice in poetry. He wrote with honesty, tenderness and humour, and that came through in every reading tonight. One of my favourites, "To My Father," remembers a day on Lough Corrib with his dad, a beautiful tribute full of love and gentle fun.

The evening was a true celebration of his life and his words. His voice endures, and his work goes on. 💙

Thank you to Ann and Tony Duncan, the Duncan family, and everyone who made this book possible.

Anne Marie Allen spent her youth and young adulthood in a religious organization that coerced her obedience via submission to their god and a vocation THEY informed her of.

My interview with Anne Marie and two other former Opus Dei women is now live on YouTube and anywhere podcasts live: https://youtu.be/FfwvtwcEnnU?si=Rk5--6Blf6Cc-HDL

We've spent quite a bit of time talking about life before and during initiation into a high-control groups like Opus Dei.

But the vast majority of people will eventually leave these dynamics. And the kinds of lives people lead from that point onward are anything but guaranteed and certain.

In this three-way conversation with former Opus Dei members Anne Marie, Teena, and Marina, we unpack what the aftermath looks like and how each woman has gone about building her own life post-Opus.

Catch it now over on YouTube (I'll have it posted to the podcasting platforms very soon). My endless thanks to Marina, Teena, and Anne Marie for sharing their time and experiences with us all.

I interviewed TWO generations of former Opus Dei women and what they told me will SHOCK you: https://youtu.be/FfwvtwcEnnU

Two clients. Two job offers. One great day.

One came through four rounds of interviews. The other, a two-phased process. Both told me every question I'd prepared them for came up on the day.

Preparation doesn't remove the nerves. It puts you back in charge of them, so you walk in clear, calm and ready to let your magnificence show.

Congratulations to you both. You did the work, and it paid off.

Got an interview coming up? Let's make sure you're the one sharing good news next.

It's taken me a year to read this book.

Some stories you can only take a few pages at a time.

'Stronger: What Didn't Kill Me, Made Me'by @nicola.hanney .

Read that subtitle again. The word that matters is 'MADE.'

Nicola survived cancer. Then she survived years of coercive control. Underneath it all was one relentless force: survival. She survived her illness, and she survived her abuser.

Her case became one of the first coercive control convictions in Ireland. That happened because she found her voice.

Some of us know how long that can take.

Nicola, thank you for your bravery.

I spoke with two different generations of former Opus Dei members. What they told me will shock you.

I have been hard at work for the past couple of weeks on an incredible conversation that I was fortunate enough to have, and on Sunday, I'll be sharing it with the rest of the world.

This conversation goes beyond Opus Dei, following the lives of each woman as she went from being in an organization "in the middle of the world" to ACTUALLY being back in the middle of the world, post- Opus.

Some clients arrive with years of interview experience.

This one had exactly two. The first was for McDonald's. It didn't go his way. (Their loss.)

The second was for the public service. We prepared together, he walked in knowing his worth, and he walked out with the job.

His words: it changed his life, and his family's too.

This is why I do what I do. You don't need a long CV of interviews. You need the right preparation and someone in your corner.

If your big interview is coming up, let's talk.

Vicarstown Parkrun took its road show to Penrhyn, North Wales this weekend — and the weather did its absolute worst to ruin it. Didn't stand a chance. 😂 Turns out you can't dampen good spirits, even when everything else is soaked. Fresh air, tired legs, terrible hair, brilliant company — that's parkrun tourism for you. Community, craic and a cracking run, rain or shine. Already plotting the next away trip!

Fourth expo, three photos — there was too much good conversation going on to stop and take pictures!

It was great to be back on stage at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, with Stephen Moore and the whole Out of the Blue Expo team. A brilliant day of career transition, resilience and honest conversation about life after the uniform.

Lovely to meet Jennifer McCarthy, and a huge thank you to the fabulous Alan Shortt for hosting the day with such warmth and energy. Grateful, too, for the chance to reconnect with old friends and meet so many new faces doing incredible work in this space.

Roll on the next one! 🙌
