As a constantly tired dad of a preschooler and toddler, it can be pretty hard for me to read cause I fall asleep super fast. Thankfully audiobooks are there to solve all my problems!

I listen to them while I drive. I listen to them when I'm doing chores around the house. I listen to them while I run on the treadmill (not on the road, it's not the safest). I listen to them while I'm staring at the endless void that is a spreadsheet. I LOVE AUDIOBOOKS!

While the dramatic adaptations are cool, I really like the base book without all the bells and whistles. My current top 5 Audiobooks are:

🐺 Red Rising
🦶 Dungeon Crawler Carl
😈 The Devils
🦴 The Bone Season
🧇 The Legend of Uh

10 Before the End (of the year) - Reading and Listening edition.

The reading portion of the list feels a little daunting because it's busy season for work and reading has slowed down over the past 2 weeks but I know I can get through at least 3 of these.

Audiobooks are much easier for me to get through cause I can listen to them while I work on presentations and spreadsheets. Emma M. Lion has been especially easy to get through and I've got another 6 of those to catch up on. Let's see what happens!

Books:
City of Warrior - Joey Stewart (ARC)
Ironbound - Andrew Givler
Dead Beat - Leigh Bardugo
The Third Legend of Uh - Aaron Hall (ARC)
Elder Arcanist - Shami Stovall

Audiobooks:
The Shadow of the Gods - John Gwyne
Howling Dark - Chris Ruocchio
Emma M. Lion Volume 3 - Beth Brower
The Tapestry of Fate - S. A. Chakraborty
Jade War - Fonda Lee

The whimsy is starting!

Volume 1 did not have me hooked, but I pushed through because @readtotheclass does not lie. Let me tell you, WHIMSY!

All of the characters have been further fleshed out, but I am particularly liking the tenant. He is learning the way of St. Crispin, all the while Emma is just being magical everywhere and introducing us to everyone under the sun. Her friends / relatives her age make the story even better, while the older relatives are making her life more difficult.

Emma just keeps bumping into all these crazy scenarios and I can't wait to see where she goes next! by @amacreads

Really productive week over here!

Busy season for work is ramping up so my schedule was jam-packed with meetings most of the week, but also plenty of spreadsheet time which meant lots of audiobook time. Kids have also been going to bed early, which has given me more time to read in the evenings.

Andddd got some decent mileage in too. Skipped today's long run partially because it's too cold at 5am to bring one of the boys out with me, but I also had a local 5k today that benefits one of the local schools and funds activities for the kids. Ran fast enough with the single stroller for 12th overall, 4th adult (school aged children had their own division) and 1st stroller. Weather looks good the next few days and looking forward to more time outside!

Review!!!!

Finished two books in one day (thank you audiobooks) but I wrapped up this ARC from @robertwriley_author and hot damn! It's sooooo good!

Few things that stood out to me. Character development was next level for all the main characters. And the inclusion of so many nations that represent empires in our world history was pretty great to see.

Full review up on Storygraph, Fable, and Goodreads. Check out Blood of Yesterday when it comes out on October 20th! by @amacreads

@readtotheclass has been posting about this gem of a series non-stop and I saw the audiobook was available through the library via @hoopladigital, so gave it a shot. It's a short book so you can get through it in a few hours.

Honestly, I was not overly impressed by the book itself, but the format is great. Beth did a very good job at giving background on Emma M. Lion, her current situation and setting up what is going to happen in the future. Emma is a very interesting character, goes against societal norms, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the books hold for her / us as the audience.

Already started on Volume 2, we're in it for the long haul! I will be Lionheart by the end of this! by @amacreads

Solid month! The most I've read and listened to all year and all pretty good books. The Second Legend of Uh was definitely my favorite and I cannot wait for the third to come out next year! Happy to have finished up The Tethered God during my run today so I could count it towards September.

Starting off October with Jade City by @fonda.lee and hoping to get a few more books finished before month end. Several long runs and a few long drives already planned for work, so plenty of time to listen to several books.

What was your favorite book from September?

Finished The Tethered God!

I kept seeing this book making the rounds and added it to my TBL list. Started listening shortly after it was released and found the narrative to be pretty enjoyable. You're seeing through the POV of Brann the whole book, navigating through life and redeeming himself by the end of the book. Brann's relationship with Seren evolves throughout the book, culminating in him realizing something that you as the reader can see coming 20 chapters earlier.

The magic system used in the book is very interesting and pivotal to the book. Intersecting religion and politics is not a new trope, but Brisk manages to make it feel a little different than all the rest. The description of fight scenes and the aftermath of the fights are very vivid / gruesome, so be prepared if you have a weak stomach for that sort of thing.

Overall, liked the book and looking forward to the next in the series!

What a week it has been! Trip into the city with the 4 year old and a few too early mornings car rides got me through the rest of Empire of Silence and ACOFAS. Spreadsheet hell allowed me to get through a nice chunk of The Tethered God and damn is it good!!!!!!

Making great progress of Blood of Yesterday. The book is getting really good and the world building is progressing / expanding wicked nicely. Wicked excited to see what the second half of the book brings.

Running was extremely subpar this week. Between the build up to busy seasons, appointments, colder temps at 5am (real feel 39° isn't really conducive for running with a 4 year old) and this weekends Nor'easter, only managed 5 miles. Is what it is, always next week!

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's recaps of the week!!
