What I’ve learned in more than 10 years as a female athlete. Fueling your body with nutritious food is important for elite performance. If you’re in delibitating pain, skip the gym. You’re human too. And every female’s period is different- you know what works best for you. While our biological and hormonal differences are there, we have our own strengths individually. Comparison (to anyone) is the thief of joy.I cannot emphasise enough- carbs are your friend. We need carbs to be explosive in sports and have sustained energy. Gone are the days where people think that carbs make you fat.Our bodies get stronger from recovery days and we need both mental and physical. Training twice a day everyday is something only a robot can do.Our hormones fluctuate (like our moods 😂). Some days are harder than others, your 100% today may not be the same as your 100% yesterday- and that’s OKAY.We all want to do this for a long time, so what you choose today will benefit you in the long run! ✨ by @amanda.boxing

The fighting industry can be many things and rear a bunch of ugly heads, but today, I choose to see and recognize the beauty it brings, the camaraderie it forges through the violence, and the friendships it forms. Martial arts in its origin is about respect and sportsmanship. A big thank you to my opponent who came to fight, a big puncher, and was a tough one to crack. She’s a true martial artist and fighter spanning over 130 fights at a young age. She was relentless from start to finish and I respect that. 🤝📸: @wm_boxing_ by @amanda.boxing

From someone who used to think eating 1200 calories is enough for performance 😂This is what I’ve learned works for me over the years. Not medical advice- everyone’s body works differently. Unless it’s a short notice fight, dropping fat takes time. Give your body the time it needs to drop the weight safely; and having ample time puts your mind at ease too. Your fight camp diet shouldn’t be a radical change. As an athlete you should be eating 80% whole foods to support your performance and recovery. Cutting carbs too early in your cut means sacrificing performance and making your water weight manipulation harder at the end. I eat a piece of chocolate if I crave it, but not the whole box. It’s about self control, not complete deprivation.Trashing your gut post weigh in with hard to digest foods is a no-no and can lead to gut issues and a flat performance. Not everyone can afford to do this, but I’ve found that it helps to keep me accountable and keeps my body well fuelled with the right numbers. Even if you use a nutritionist once or twice, it is a good investment to learn the skills for yourself for future fights. Weight cuts are never “fun” but they don’t have to ruin your body or performance. Knowing what works for you keeps things sustainable and healthy! by @amanda.boxing

Stepping into a sport like boxing that demands so much from you takes courage. These girls are new to the sport but driven and fearless. Kim lost her first ever fight, but put on a good performance and exceeded my expectations. I am proud of how far she has come in her skills and grit even though she started boxing 6(?) months ago. She never gave up no matter how difficult training got, and kept pushing forward proactively. I am proud of you Kim, let’s keep moving forward. Sameera has only been with me for a short while, but her work ethic as a 16 year old is admirable. She shows up every single day, doesn’t complain, and just does the work quietly. She doesn’t say much but she’s always ALWAYS looking for every small thing to improve; sometimes I have to tell her to calm down. We clinched two wins in the last two days, and will keep working to improve in the next one. Congratulations Sameera! I never thought I would ever be in the position I am, but I am grateful to be able to be a role model and coach to these ladies. Women’s boxing is growing surely in our small island and I’m proud to be a part of it. 🇸🇬 Thank you @legacywbc for the opportunities and @sgwomensboxing for giving a platform for all ladies of all ages and levels to train! It is so heartwarming to see the sport grow; we really are all in this together 🤝🫶🏻 by @amanda.boxing
