God does meet us where we are.

Not where we think we should be.
Not once we’ve pulled ourselves together.
Not when our faith feels strong again.
Not after we have the right words to pray.

Right here, right in it.

I think about the Psalms of lament. They are so incredibly raw. How long, O Lord? Why have You forgotten me? Why are You so far from saving me? Scripture doesn’t hide those words from us. God gave them to us.

There is room in the Christian life for grief that doesn’t know what to say. For questions. For tears. For the moment when what we know to be true about God feels very far away.

And yet, so often in those same Psalms, lament eventually turns toward truth:

“But I have trusted in Your steadfast love.”

Our circumstances haven’t changed. The pain hasn’t disappeared. But our suffering broken heart is reminded who God is.

I’ve also been thinking about the women throughout Scripture and how often God met them in the exact place they were.

He met Hagar in the wilderness..running away, alone and afraid. And she called Him El Roi, “the God who sees me.”

Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well, right in the middle of the complicated and sinful reality of her life.

He met Martha in her grief, when she was trying to reconcile what she believed about Jesus with the fact that her brother was dead.

He met Mary weeping at His feet and He wept with her.

God did not require them to find their way to the “right” emotional or spiritual place before He came near.

He came to them.

And maybe that is one of the sweetest truths for suffering: God is not intimidated by our grief. He is not threatened by our questions. He is not waiting impatiently for us to stop crying and remember better theology.

He meets His people.

And then, gently, He reminds us who He is.

and to him who has no might he increases strength…” by @amanda_usiak

I think the “follow your heart” message has done us a tremendous disservice. Clearly 🙈🤷‍♀️🤪

There is a whole generation raised on the Disney “follow your heart” trust your feelings, be true to yourself, do what makes you happy, and then we’re surprised when adults believe that deeply feeling something makes it TRUTH. 🙈

I want my children to know their emotions matter. I want them to be able to name them, talk about them, and bring them to us without fear.

But I also want them to know:

You can feel angry and still be kind.
You can feel afraid and still do what is right.
You can desire something and still deny yourself - self controls
You can feel deeply convinced of something and still be wrong.
To be able to walk out the fruit of the spirit.

Because Christianity isn’t “follow your heart.”
It is deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Christ.

We are not interested in raising children ruled by every changing feeling ams desire. I want to raise children who know the Word and can test their feelings against truth, exercise discernment, practice self-control, repent when they’re wrong, and follow Christ even when obedience costs them.

In this house, the goal isn’t “do what makes you happy.”

The goal is faithfulness to Christ. by @amanda_usiak

The world is not random.
Life is not accidental.
We are creatures, not the Creator.

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.”

Dear Friend.. 🤍🌿 by @amanda_usiak

The Saturday Morning Reset:
Not a deep clean. Definitely not perfect. This is also reality in a home with 4 little people!! Friday was busy and we had a late night.. so a night reset didn’t happen.. let’s do a quick reset before we get moving on with our day 🤍

Everyone pitches in, the house gets put back together enough, and we can move on with our Saturday and probably do it all over again tonight 😂

A lived-in house + lots of little hands = constantly resetting 🧺✨

I want to be very clear about what I am and what I am not advocating for.

I am not against treating women experiencing pregnancy complications.

Treatment for an ectopic pregnancy is legal in all 50 states. And when a baby has already passed away in the womb, a mother can legally receive the medical care she needs if her body does not deliver naturally.

I also understand that the medical terminology can be confusing. A miscarriage may be medically referred to as a spontaneous abortion. When I say I oppose abortion, that is not what I am talking about.

I am talking about the intentional ending of the life of a living unborn baby in a way that is intended to cause that baby’s death.

There is an important distinction between treating a medical complication, even when the heartbreaking result is that the baby cannot survive and intentionally causing the death of a living unborn baby.

I believe medical professionals should provide the necessary care for the mother while giving her baby the best chance of survival.

Sometimes, despite every effort, a baby will not survive. The loss of that baby is not the same thing as intentionally causing that baby’s death.

I believe we can advocate for excellent healthcare for women and protection for unborn babies.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive. by @amanda_usiak
