Hello beautiful souls 🤍 Let’s celebrate the Summer Solstice with the healing frequencies of Mother Earth. 🌍✨
We are so incredibly excited to share this collaboration of flowers and sound. On June 20th, frequencies of the earth will flow through our Brooklyn space, offering a sanctuary from the summer heat.
We are honored to have flower essence specialist Amanda Fortini flying in to guide us. Because each flower vibrates to speak to our hearts differently, we will each find and craft our own personalized flower essence blend. Becoming one with these essences, the frequencies of nature sounds will guide you deeper within during our sacred sound meditation.
Amanda and I have created magic together before, and we cannot wait for you to experience what flowers and sounds can bring when united.
🗓️ Saturday, June 20th | 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM 📍 Brooklyn, NY ✨ Open to all spiritual seekers.
Take this opportunity to secure your spot while early bird tickets are still available. (Link in bio!) Let’s create a magical time and space together. 🌸#soundhealingnyc #soundbathbrooklyn #floweressences #nycwellness by @amandafortini

I’m thrilled that the introduction I wrote for Jan Kerouac’s autobiographical novel, Baby Driver—being reissued by @nyrbooks on November 11th, and now out in the UK from @deadinkbooks—has been published today by @parisreview. I am so excited for people to read this book! It was such an honor to introduce it. Baby Driver is an example of what I call ‘the female picaresque’—and we don’t have many of them, for all the obvious sociocultural reasons. As @katieroiphe put it in her wonderful blurb, “Very rarely does a true free spirit capture their experience this vividly on the page.” That is the gift Jan Kerouac—who died at only 44, and whose famous father you might have heard of—left us. Thanks to Olivia Kan-Sperling @parisreview for publishing my intro. And extra special thanks to my brilliant @nybooks editor @susanebarba for asking me to write it, and for shepherding it to publication with such fine attention and care. ✨Link in my bio to read the intro, and also to buy the book. ✨

I’m thrilled to have written @tmagazine’s current cover story about GenX and its legacy—what they have to teach us, and why the art and culture they created endures. Or perhaps I should say “we,” since I was born in 1976; this one was a personal, gratifying, and especially fun piece to write. GenX — the generation that includes individuals born between 1965 and 1980 (though there’s widespread confusion about these parameters) — is not just a time period, I argue, “It’s a moment, a mood, an ethos and an enduring way of being, the hallmark characteristics of which — anticorporatism, anti-authoritarianism, ironic detachment, artistic independence, an existential horror of selling out and a live-and-let-live philosophy of life — feel like the antidote to a lot of what’s currently wrong in our culture.”
Thanks to everyone who talked to me for the story— @douglascoupland, @breteastonellis, Douglas Rushkoff, @mollyringwald, @lizphairofficial, @janepratt, @stephenmalkmus, Gregg Araki, @rosieperezbrooklyn, and @iamnialong, among others—and to my brilliant editors, M.H. Miller and @hanyayanagihara, for asking me to write it. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed reporting and writing it. ⭐️ Link in my bio.

Walter and I decided to check into a hotel for a night to go through the final copyedit of his book. It is exceedingly detail-oriented and often tedious work (that’s why I’m helping with it!), and sometimes as a writer you just have to get out of your space so you stop finding excuses to clean and organize rather than decide whether you need a comma after this clause or if there’s a better way to phrase that. We went on HotelTonigt and happened upon a room at the Virgin that said it was normally $10,000/night (right 😉), but it was being offered for $159/night. Needless to say, we were curious. We booked it. I never, ever make videos on here—it feels weird to me; I’m trying to get over that—but I thought you might like a tour, so I made one. Meanwhile, we finished the copyedit. Walter’s new book will be out in June 2027. ✨ @walterkirn by @amandafortini

Annie Dillard, hero to so many of us writers. She taught us to get out into the physical world, to dig our hands and feet into the soil of it, and to look, to really look, at what we found there. I have often taught her magnificent“Total Eclipse” essay to my students, as well as “Living Like Weasels,” in which she writes about her encounter with a weasel in minute, consciousness-shifting detail. They always loved these pieces and their own work took giant observational leaps after being exposed to hers. This quote is from her book The Writing Life, which has been something of a Bible to me. I have read it again and again, savoring it anew each time. This passage here is advice that’s as relevant to writing as it is to life. Spend it all now—your words, your metaphors. your clever turns of phrase, your energy, your love. Don’t save it for a better, different, perfect day; the energetics of creativity and life are such that this mythical day might not ever arrive. RIP. by @amandafortini
