🔮 I see… lots of candy in your future! 🔮

This DIY fortune teller costume is pure magic, complete with the trick-or-treat bucket made from a plastic fishbowl! ✨

Add a stylish capelette, a patchwork skirt made from fabric strips tied to a piece of elastic, gold coin trim, and a shimmery headband, and your little mystic is ready to predict the future (and collect the goods).

What fortune would YOU want to hear on Halloween night? Tell me below! 👇

DIY costumes can feel overwhelming when they call for hard-to-find (or pricey!) materials. This 🐦‍⬛ black crow 🐦‍⬛ costume is the total opposite. The “cape” is made from a black hooded towel and a few trash bags. And bonus: it’s waterproof, so file this one under Perfect Rainy-Day Halloween Costume! 🖤

Accidental art might be one of my favorite concepts. I define the term as when the universe hits “shuffle” and makes something beautiful you never could have planned.

I was searching my phone for a specific photo, hoping it would know exactly what I was looking for. (Spoiler: it didn’t.) What it did do was pull up images that had absolutely nothing to do with one another and put them side by side. And I was intrigued by the combinations! (For the curious, my search was BLOCK SQUARE BUILDING. I’ll share the resulting grid in my stories.)

So I thought: what if I typed a random adjective plus a color? I tried KIND BLUE, and it pulled up every photo it considered a match. (And yes, I take a lot of photos: reminders, crafts to share, my family, a cool sweater I fell in love with. I suspect I’m not the only one.)

Here’s how I turned it into art:

✨ I made a KIND BLUE folder in my photos and dragged my favorites in.
✨ In @picstitch (an app I downloaded years ago for collages), I picked the 9 I liked most. I didn’t zoom or crop, but that’s definitely not a rule.
✨ I printed the collage 18 inches square, leaving a little white space at the bottom. @staples does this very affordably. Go with an engineering print for copy-paper quality, or spend a little more for nicer paper.

Insta-art! Accidental art! Every member of my family is in there, plus some travel and some crafts.

What adjective + color would you try? 💙 #accidentalart #instaart by @amandakingloff

When brainstorming costumes that call for a cape, we knew we didn’t want to always go the obvious route. But then the idea of a good witch/bad witch duo popped up—and casting the cutest pup in the world as the villain? Well, that was a no-brainer. 🐶🖤

Our good witch got a seriously rad makeover, complete with a fascinator hat and leg warmers. And her cape? A princess nightgown, transformed into a whimsical little masterpiece. This #Glindathegoodwitch is ready for the runway! 🪄✨

One of our projects is featured in the Oct/Nov issue of @womansdaymag! They shared one of favorites, meant to be created as a family (or other tight-knit group). After everyone has made a wild, abstract drawing, we cut them into strips then weave them together. It’s a cool way to personify the woven nature of a family…how every strip is vital to the strength of the whole.

A few weeks ago, Amanda lead a group of families at @mlrtbe in this weaving project with beautiful results! 🎨

Thanks to @womansdaymag and @meaghanbmurphy for helping us spread ✨Jewish Joy ✨! And also to @mlrtbe for welcoming me into their community!

Not all heroes wear capes, but some monsters do! 🔴🟠🟡🟣🔵

If your kid prioritizes warmth and comfort in a costume, this maximalist monster, sporting a bath-robe-turned-pom-pom-cape is a win! Just tuck the sleeves inside out, pin them in place and either use the hood as a headpiece or make one from a headband, felt, and pompoms.
