Sunday Reflections ✨

I’m so excited to finally share that my work will be on sale with the Hangklip Community of Artists at Harold Porter Botanical Gardens in Betty’s Bay from 30 September to 6 October. 🎨🌿

I’ve been getting my work ready for the exhibition, choosing pieces, finishing paintings and, of course, doing all the little things that happen behind the scenes before you put your work out into the world.

But alongside all of that, I’ve also given myself permission to rest and heal after what has been a pretty heavy few months.

There have been lots of walks, exploring our beautiful new surroundings, time with the dogs, reading, painting… and simply allowing myself to breathe.

And you know what?

My heart is filling up again.
My soul feels fuller.
And slowly, my energy is returning. ❤️

So, if you’re heading out into the Overstrand during whale season, please pop into Harold Porter Botanical Gardens and come have a look at what the Hangklip artists have been creating.

There is something rather special about supporting local artists while enjoying one of the most beautiful corners of the Western Cape.

Come see us. Come wander. Come look at some art.

🎬 WHAT MAKES A MAKE-UP DESIGNER CHOOSE YOU TO BE PART OF THEIR TEAM?

When you’re applying for an opportunity in Film & Television, your first impression often happens long before you walk into an interview.

It starts with how you communicate.

Whether you’re contacting someone via WhatsApp or email, ask yourself:

✨ Is my message clear?
✨ Is it easy to read?
✨ Have I checked my spelling?
✨ Have I presented my information professionally?

And then there’s your portfolio…

📸 Is your portfolio thoughtfully put together?

Or is it simply a collection of random photographs sent without any context or structure?

Remember, when someone is looking at potentially bringing you onto their team, they are looking at more than just your make-up or hair skills.

They are looking at how you present yourself.

Because working in Film & Television requires professionalism, communication, organisation, teamwork and attention to detail.

🎬 And now, a little reminder for everyone who has received an application form…

If you would like to be considered for the shortlist, you need to complete and return your application form.

The form is part of the selection process.

We have had an incredible response, and the team and I will be working through all the applications carefully.

So take your time.

Living the dream can look amazing in pictures, but there are also moments you don’t see. Like my cat sitting on my chest while I battled a bout of depression and anxiety.

Change is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. Even beautiful, positive changes can take time to process, and it’s okay to admit when things feel difficult.

It may not always happen exactly when I planned it.

It may be messy.

There may even be baboons involved. 😂

But I am living my dream.

So keep looking for the rainbows and the sunshine, even on the harder days. Remember that the universe and God want you to succeed, and sometimes you just have to make the leap and trust where life takes you. ❤️ by @amandarossmcd

✨ THE WAIT IS OVER! ✨

Thank you to everyone who has been patiently waiting for this opportunity.

I’m very excited to announce that we are putting together our next intensive 3-week Hair & Make-up course for Film & Television, running 12–30 October 2026.

We only have 15 places available, so we will be interviewing applicants to make sure we have the right people on board — passionate, committed people who are serious about pursuing a career in the film and television industry.

YOU NEED TO:
🎬 Be a South African resident
💄 Have basic hair & make-up skills
🧰 Have your own basic kit
📅 Be available for the full three weeks
❤️ Have a genuine passion for working in film & television

Lunch and a fuel allowance will be provided, while consumables and specialised products will be supplied.

And here’s the really exciting part…

Those who perform exceptionally well during the course may have the opportunity to work alongside myself and my team on the next season of Netflix’s One Piece. 🎬✨

Thank you for my artist brush ring I thought it was perfect from my Make up artist friends. But now I’m thinking it works for any artist

There is something incredibly special about being given the opportunity to paint or draw someone — or something — that means so much to another person.

One of the greatest rewards for me is seeing the reaction when a painting or drawing is finally handed over. ❤️

Knowing that I’ve captured something of a beloved person, a much-loved pet, a special moment or a little bit of their personality, and that it means something to them… that is what makes creating so worthwhile for me.

I feel incredibly lucky to have been given this gift, and even luckier that I get to share it with others.

Whether it’s a portrait of someone you love, a treasured family member, or that completely irreplaceable four-legged character who has stolen your heart 🐾 — I would love to create something special for you.

And it doesn’t have to be one particular style or format. We can find what works for you, your story and your budget.

So if you’ve been thinking about having a beloved person or pet captured in a painting or drawing, give me a shout.

Sunday Reflections ✨

This week was really about getting everything in order.

I remember reading somewhere that when you’re doing your taxes, you should have fun with it. So I took my time getting everything together — first with coffee, and eventually with some wine! 😂

Then there was taking photos of my car, which is now officially for sale.

But one of the loveliest parts of this week has been being embraced by an incredible group of artists who live in the area. I feel so welcomed, inspired and very grateful to have found this little creative community.

Thank you. ❤️

And slowly, I’m settling into living the dream…

Long walks with the dogs.
Slow days.
Time to breathe.
Time to create.

And next week?

Next week is for painting. 🎨

So, many of you know me as a make-up and hair artist.

Over the last 30 years, I’ve worked on some amazing projects, travelled to interesting and eye-opening places, met incredible people (and a few not-so-amazing ones 😉), and helped bring some pretty wonderful characters to life.

But now, in between completed projects and whatever comes next, I’m taking a little time to create some magic of a different kind… 🎨✨

My new studio in Pringle Bay is slowly coming together, and I’m finally getting to spend some proper time painting, creating and playing.

Although… I wonder if you can spot the moment I completely fall on my arse while unpacking the studio! 😂

And yes — the promised Maria is coming too. ❤️

New home. New studio. New chapter.

And plenty of stories still to paint.
