Two years ago I was fantasising about being hospitalised. Just for the rest.

That’s how burnt out I was. And the truly humbling part? I’m a CEO and organisational psychologist.

Boosting energy and wellbeing is literally my job.

I had missed every single warning sign in myself.

So I stopped, did the research, tested everything I could find - on myself and on 1,300 other people - and wrote a book about what actually works.

Pre-orders for The Energy Game are now open (it’s landing on bookshelves on July 7) - link in bio or search for it at your preferred book retailer.

If you’re running on empty, second-guessing everything, and wondering why the things that used to energise you just... don’t anymore - this book is for you. by @amanthai

So last night, I was a finalist in the Australian AI Awards and holy crap, I won AI Consultant of the Year.

I was stoked just to be a finalist (and yes, I know that’s what everyone who has ever been up for an award says, but seriously: legit happy). Anyway, I was in total shock when my name got called out and have absolutely no idea what words came out of my mouth when I went up on stage to collect my award. (Pretty sure I thanked my cat, which is awkward because I don’t have a cat.)

But after regaining consciousness and remembering how to form coherent sentences: here’s what I would have said if I’d actually thought I had a chance of winning and prepared a speech like a responsible adult.

The award is very much a team effort (I know, I know, so cringe, but also: true). Inventium’s AI programs are led by the best AI educator I know (and my personal AI mentor) Neo Aplin. Plus, for anyone who has experienced an Inventium AI program first-hand, you’ll know how ridiculously talented our team is: Danny Beiruti and Evelina Bereni (who run many of our programs and make AI accessible and useful to the masses), Alison Solly (who helps change mindsets around AI, which some may say is harder that trying to give a meerkat a bath), Phoebe Pownell and Bruce McCole (who rove around our workshop rooms like AI whisperers), Hannah O’Connor (our PM who plays advanced level Tetris with all our diaries), Catherine Martin (who manages our ever-growing online community) and Jeremia Rubio and Zydrelle Gueco (who make everything work like clockwork behind the scenes).

So: team effort. I just happened to be the one holding the trophy when the music stopped.

In this week’s Work and Wellness episode, I sat down with @amanthai and chatted all things Energy, Sustainable Performance and how to make AI work for us, rather than against us.

This is such a practical episode, with so many tangible takeaways that are VERY doable. by @amanthai

Meeting Amantha Imber, I considered wearing my glasses to look just that little bit smarter — the references in her books could be their own books! But turns out she’s lovely and not at all serious (except when it counts) and more than up for a little fun. I probably should have guessed, given the title of her latest book, 'The Energy Game'. A jam-packed collection of tiny starts, reboots and quick wins for those who are so burnt out they can’t even find their way to their own bed.

Bookmark your favourite listening platforms for this week's episode, out Wednesday. All links (and a preview) available here:

Got a weird phobia or fear? You’re in good company. Amantha Imber has a practical strategy you need to try (that you probably haven’t heard of).

It’s called Emotional Freedom Technique. If you think it sounds woo woo, we get it. But Amantha’s a total science nerd (goes with the Doctor territory). And she used this technique to overcome her pretty weird phobia. Hint: reptiles

She talks through so many practical strategies like this in her latest book The Energy Game. Want the full podcast episode? Comment POD, and I’ll send you the link. by @amanthai

Here’s a motivation trick that works better than nagging.

Psychologist Justin Coulson says nagging was never going to work. What actually shifts behaviour is getting someone to see the value in the task, whether it’s a messy room or a safety report nobody wants to fill in.

Once someone identifies the value in doing something, they endorse it. And once they endorse it, you can stop cracking the whip. (Revolutionary concept: nagging less and it actually working.)

When the world feels chaotic, our instinct is often to grip a little tighter. More control. More certainty. More ways to make ourselves feel safe.

But Oliver Burkeman thinks that instinct might be costing us something important.

In the latest episode of How I Work, Oliver shares his idea of “clenching” and what it might look like to loosen our grip instead.

And it’s a wrap on the Melbourne book launch for The Energy Game (which incidentally is available wherever books are sold).

Thank you to all the wonderful peeps who braved the Melbourne winter to watch us sing and dance and be silly.

The higher you climb, the harder it can be to admit you're struggling. But what if that's exactly what's keeping your team at a distance?

Christian O'Connell shares the leadership lesson he learned the hard way - and why connection starts when you stop pretending to have all the answers.

Deloitte Global’s 2026 Gen Z and Millennial Survey recently dropped: 22,500 people, 44 countries. Respondents indicated they’re chasing stability, adaptability and wellbeing over racing to the top.

Twenty years of running Inventium taught me the same thing the hard way. Here are 4 things I’d tell 25-year-old me:
→ Climbing fast isn’t for everyone
→ Adaptability is what keeps you alive
→ AI is a thinking partner, not a replacement for thinking
→ Purpose may outweigh a job title

What would you tell your 25-year-old self? 👇

We spend so much time trying to tell stories that make us look impressive. But according to Christian O'Connell, that's exactly why they often don't connect.

In this snippet, he shares the one ingredient every great story has... and it's probably the thing most of us try hardest to avoid.
