Lauren was my renaissance lady. Growing up, she was a gifted musician, playing 3 instruments equally well, could sing like Adele, and was “surprisingly” athletic. She knew her way around the kitchen, making delicious dinners and desserts. Lauren also routinely gave me the best compliments on my cooking…..and in general. She was sharp and creative—her physical beauty, tendency to notice subtleties and to simultaneously miss the obvious, coupled with humility and self-deprecation made her so brilliantly funny that I called her my little Lucille Ball. Lauren was also a budding engineer. She was indefatigable, with a work ethic that was unmatched. In her first year competing in robotics against teams who have been together since childhood, they rose, over the course of 4 months, from an embarrassing finish at their first tourney at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, to a top 10 finish at the NH/VT state tourney, earning the respect of their competitors and judges along the way. Though she often worked her teammates for hours after the end of the school day, they attest to Robotics Team being the most fun and memorable experience they’ve ever had. We even honored Tristan with a “Senior Night” at, where else, but Dave and Busters where the 3 of them outlasted the others playing games for hours.
I remain stunned that we lost her….
A month after she passed, Lauren posthumously received the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Innovation Award that included a scholarship totaling $100,000 over 4 years, having been nominated months ago by her veteran robotics coach and physics teacher Mr. Joe Pouliot. EVERYONE who knew Lauren knew she could always be found in JoPo’s classroom. She wasn’t there just to work on the robot, but she invited her friends there to hang out, eat lunch, do homework, and yes, even play volleyball. She was my girl. Last week, Trinity High School recognized Lauren with the dedication of a state-of the-art Robotics Lab in her name. We are grateful to Mr. Pouliot for initiating and making this dedication possible. Words cannot describe what a gift you were to her and what a gift this is to us as a family—thank you. by @amaranth_md
