Portrait of a Rebel as a young man. I think I was 12.

There have been a lot of special moments on this Birth of a Rebel tour, but this is among the top. Man, to have the work we are doing be recognized this way by my elders—by the very elders who showed us how to do it—feels amazing. And then to have my favorite author quoted back on me? Life is Good and God is the greatest.

Soular Rock is real, and it is ours.

And I am always on Black people’s side. by @amarirebel

Things happen. Gotta keep it moving. We had a heck of a time in Baltimore for the Birth of a Rebel Tour.

We look forward to seeing you soon in a city near you. Do you live in a Soular Rock City? Tell us where you at and where we need to be. by @amarirebel

The Full Never Told

Friday, October 23rd | 6:00 PM | Runtime 36 Minutes (screening link in bio)

The Full Never Told. In the 1970s, three Rastafarians on the Caribbean Island of Dominica were unjustly imprisoned for their spiritual beliefs during the period of the infamous “Dread Act”(1974-1981). After a daring escape, their lives took different directions. One became a lawyer to fight injustice. Another fled to the hills to evade the trappings of modernity. The third, once condemned to death by hanging, repatriated to Africa. What were they seeking? What did they find?

The Full Never Told is directed by Amari Johnson and produced by Scattered People Films.

Amari is a musician, filmmaker, cultural worker, and former university professor, with over two decades of work in teaching, storytelling, and creative production. Amari leads Amari Rebel & the Movement, a band that blends rock, reggae, and hip-hop into Soular Rock: a world where Black people live lives of Freedom & Fulfillment. Their music connects audiences across geography and generations through sound, story, and community. by @amarirebel

We’ve had a nice run of Soular Rock University, bringing the ideas in my book Under a Black Star to life through music and conversation. DM to bring us to your campus. by @amarirebel
