Rest in Peace, Danny Simmons Jr.With deep sadness, we’ve lost a powerful presence in the art world. Danny was a cool brother, an extraordinary artist, and a profound champion of Black art and Black artists. I first met him at his Rush Arts Gallery in Chelsea in the late 1990s and later attended the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation fundraisers he hosted annually in the Hamptons. He invited me to his home in Brooklyn, where every inch was filled with magnificent artwork, sculptures, and cultural artifacts.At one point, he asked me to write the screenplay adaptation of his novel, Three Days As the Crow Flies, a fictional account of New York’s 1980s art scene—an era I knew something about. Unfortunately, that project never came to fruition, but we remained connected over the years, sharing ideas, conversations, and perspectives, often through social media.Danny was real, kind, bold, and loved by so many. My prayers are with his wife, children, family, friends, and the countless artists whose lives he touched. You will be deeply missed.Fly high, King. ❤️🙏🏾 by @ambassador_mag
