I had someone on retreat this year say how refreshing it was that there were no images of deities crammed onto the altar… I mean I love a deity but
Why would I? Just step outside…

Such a beautiful retreat in the magical land of Avebury, constantly blown away by the amazing people who come together for these gatherings. Thank you to this unique constellation of souls who came together for 4 magical days at Salthrop

Nepal is where I have spent the happiest times of my life. This is in no small part due to the people. The most intelligent, grounded, generous and cool people I have had the pleasure to share time with. From 2004-2007 I spent long periods in Kathmandu where I learnt the skills that have provided me with a livelihood. In that time we went through curfews and uncertainty and I was never asked for anything. Even as a wealthy foreigner I was taken in and my financial help was refused. I don’t think charity is something Nepali people will accept but Generosity is recognised. Please donate generously: https://donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/nepal-floods

It is the least we can do

Simultaneously, in this age of overwhelm, may we not lose sight of the root cause of these events: our devastation of nature. The violence with which we treat the natural world is only part tragedy. It is mostly comedy, the comedy of the absurd. Because we are part of nature, we’re not going to be here for long, and perhaps that is why my most vivid memory of Nepali people is the whole face smile on an uphill climb. It is the only gesture worth making in such circumstances.

My prayer is that we learn to care.

The Creative Evolution of Yoga

online Thursdays 9 - 10.30
starts 10th of September

Yoga has experienced many face changes: from the elemental focus of ancient ritual to the health hacks of the modern era. What is for certain is that the practice is what keeps yoga relevant and this series is a chance to explore what makes a yoga practice so special.

Reflecting on our own journey, we pause to connect with some of the key moments in yoga's history and what they teach us. From the establishment of a sacred space - outside of the ordinary - to the emphasis on inner energy portals; we consider the hierarchy of practices from the gross to the subtle and the systems that have evolved to describe and contain these ineffable experiences; reaching into the current obsession with health and fitness, we question what it means to be a yoga practitioner today.

Through this deep exploration, we fortify our resolve, clarify our intentions and create a connection with our practice that is both true and loving.

My daughter asked me today if there was a “Nothing Retreat”
Sounds like my kind of place.
On Hill Yoga we encourage a digital detox. The devices that engage your attention can become replacements for creativity.
On Hill Yoga we guard the Precious Mind and give it time to rest.
The dates for Autumn are:
24th-28th September
8th-12th October.
