Such a joy and honor to model @vraiofficial holiday collection of sustainable diamond 💎💍 jewelry. All of VRAI's diamonds are sustainably created in the Pacific Northwest with zero carbon emissions by crystallizing greenhouse gas in a hydropowered foundry. How cool is that? You're sequestering carbon with each carat so diamonds can be a girl's best friend and the planet's best friend! 🌏💎 taken in Vancouver, British Columbia by @amberyv

What’s the best hotel in the world right now? According to @the50hotels newly announced 2026 ranking, it’s @rosewoodhongkong — again! The hotel held onto the No. 1 spot for a second year, while properties across Asia claimed six of the top 10 places. The annual list offers a snapshot of the hotels making the biggest impression on The 50’s global voting panel right now.

From a 130-year-old Swiss palace to a Yucatán retreat helping draw new attention to its corner of Mexico, this year’s list includes both major luxury brands and celebrated independent hotels. The U.S. landed just one property, @sanysidroranch in the top 50, while two Los Angeles classics appeared on the extended 51-100 ranking.

@amberyv also spoke with hotel leaders about what making the list can mean for bookings, guest expectations and the destinations they call home.

London has no shortage of grand hotels, but the city’s best stays are finding new ways to make all that history interesting again. Cutting-edge wellness offerings beneath landmark buildings, afternoon tea turned into an art exhibition and cocktail bars with more than a century of stories behind them. Some lean into old-school glamour while others are embracing the modern and new. Either way, these are hotels that make where you stay as much a part of the trip as what you do once you step outside.

From a brand-new arrival in Notting Hill to London institutions that have been hosting royalty, artists and travelers for generations, these four hotels show just how varied luxury can look in the British capital. Each brings its own sense of place, personality and approach to the city. Whether you want storied tradition, serious pampering or something a little more contemporary, Travel by LA Times Studios contributor @amberyv has found the perfect stay for you.

Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort @anantara_goldentriangle is a truly magical place that should be on every animal lover’s bucket list.

Although the resort opened in 2003, recent renovations and new activities continue to raise the bar on eco-friendly elephant tourism with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I spent the night with a pair of elephant friends in Jungle Bubbles with an outdoor hot tub and multi-course Thai dinner. Canopy Treetop dining is another unforgettable private dining experience, where you’re hoisted 52 meters above the grasslands to watch elephants grazing with views of Myanmar and Laos across the river.

New Mekong Explorer suites debuted last year, blending Thai Lanna design with colonial influences, featuring antique travel trunks, beautiful dark wood, elephant motifs and a spacious balcony with Thai-style daybed and jungle views. I appreciate how thoughtful Anantara is about sourcing local amenities, including indigneous handmade soaps (you can choose from four scents, and I loved the citrusy earth vetiver), artisan minibar snacks and turndown gifts.

Food and beverage highlights include local Chiang Rai chocolate, cheese and tropical fruits, like fleetingly seasonal marian plums, which I tried for the first time this trip. Anantara grows vegetables and herbs at their on-property organic farm, which also produces eggs and honey. Thai fine dining restaurant Samsarn opened in August 2024 and is an elevated alternative to Sala Mae Nam buffet, with Laotian, Burmese and Thai flavors inspired by Lanna culture.

Thank you to mahout Jumbo and conservation biologist guide Maprang for introducing me to 🐘🐘 Ja Thong and Kammool during my stay! taken in Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort by @amberyv

NEW — After a 10-year NFL career, Israel Idonije is charging forward as a restaurateur, focusing on redeveloping the South Loop neighborhood.

He now owns four restaurant concepts, including @staleychicago, and has three more slated to open in 2026.

“I love the South Loop,” Idonije told The TRiiBE. “It’s one of Chicago’s greatest neighborhoods, like a little suburb within the city.”

Israel Idonije believes that his NFL career has helped build a perseverance and never-give-up mentality that is so valuable when facing challenges in his new hospitality career.

That includes the possibility of the Chicago Bears leaving Soldier Field and moving to suburban Arlington Heights or northwest Indiana. Idonije weighed in on the ongoing talks about the Bears new stadium dreams.

“I think it would be a mistake for the Bears to leave the city and risk altering their brand,” Idonije said. “The South Loop community will continue to grow regardless of what happens in that respect as there are many businesses and people relocating to the area.”

The 14-course tasting menu at Michelin-starred Reverie in Washington, D.C., is known for pristinely plated Atlantic seafood. At $245, the egg yolk sauce on the risotto tastes like liquid gold and dessert comes dotted with dollops of caviar.

None of this mattered on Wednesdays and Thursdays when owner Johnny Spero was having trouble filling tables. So he did what many chefs would find unthinkable: He slashed the menu by four courses midweek and dropped the price to $180.

It worked. Spero immediately saw a more crowded restaurant. “The goal is to give guests flexibility without compromising the quality of service,” he says.

Set on Costa Rica's spectacular Peninsula Papagayo, the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort sequesters guests within pure, wild nature. More than just a luxury escape, though, this grand property walks the walk as a responsible steward for the land, ecosystem, and community, with programs for locals to grow home gardens, coral restoration initiatives, and much more. Chatting with Andaz's sustainability director, @amberyv shares more about how this stately property encapsulates Costa Rica's pura vida lifestyle and mentality while also giving back. @andazpapagayo

This is Chinese food like you’ve never tasted before. Traditional techniques like double-boiling and steaming, plus the best ingredients (like sea cucumber and fish maw from the dried seafood vendor down the street) served in creative new presentations. Who can resist an ultra crispy sea cucumber spring roll?

@chefvickycheng is classically French trained and while sister restaurant @vea_hk upstairs is French-Chinese fusion, @wingrestaurant_hk is Chinese through and through, but with a unique perspective that makes Chinese fine dining more approachable to Western palates without compromising on authenticity and integrity.

Crispy cheung fun with Alaskan king crab reminds me of plump Parisian gnocchi and we are given plastic gloves to eat dry-aged baby pigeon with our hands. Unctuous fish maw with abalone sauce rice is so lip smacking good I wish I could eat a bowl every day.

Even ostensibly simple stir-fry Chinese kale is served with a square of pungent shrimp paste cured pork that unlocks new flavors as you alternate between bites.

It’s rare to have a tasting menu where every dish creates such a strong taste memory, but Wing 永is easily one of the best meals I’ve had all year and a must for anyone who likes Chinese food and wants to learn more about Chinese culinary traditions.

The one Western token luxury ingredient that makes an appearance is white truffle, but served as a nugget in double-boiled dessert soup with ginkgo nuts. 🤯

Attention to detail is impeccable - beautiful kintsugi tea cups, candied ginger as a takeaway gift, even two different types of @aesop hand soap and lotion in the bathrooms 🙃

Congratulations Chef Vicky, Polly and the entire team! taken in 永 WING Restaurant by @amberyv

@restaurantalchemist is truly one of a kind - a once in a lifetime experience worth a special trip to Copenhagen. @rasmusmunkalchemist shares his heart with the world, balancing knowledge and imagination, creating an experience that is honestly more than a restaurant.

There are approximately 50 distinct sensory impressions (not all of them edible) over the course of 5 hours or so, but the time absolutely flies by and you’re not only entertained, but touched, challenged, and inspired. The R&D behind each impression is astounding and this is easily the most memorable and meaningful meal I’ve ever had.

Poignant and powerful messages are balanced with moments of levity - like when we could express ourselves freely with edible paint representing different emotions before the final mignardise. I don’t want to give too much away because I think it’s more magical to experience this universe with a fresh perspective. Just know that you’re in for a wild ride…

Thank you to @jogibulava @lykke_alchemist and the entire team for such warm gracious hospitality. So deserving of the Art of Hospitality Award @theworlds50best ! taken in Alchemist by @amberyv
