On sunday 31st of May I hosted an Intuitive Stitching Workshop at @buitenplaatsbrienenoord

I invited the participants to focus on the act of stitching. This way embroidery became a meditative act, focussing on the process instead of the end result.

Without thinking too much we created stories in thread and time and beautiful patterns out of different stitches appeared.

During this beautiful afternoon we shared stories, experiences and knowledge. We learned from each other, different stitch techniques and embroidery skills were shared.

I would like to thank all the participants for there enthusiasm. Thank you @urvee.ka for inviting me to be part of the Hands-on Eilandatelier and thank you @jonasblij for helping me facilitate this workshop. taken in Buitenplaats Brienenoord by @amberzaraa

Let us introduce you to the second half of Nyata Collective!
Amber Zara van den Pangaard is a designer and textile artist based in Rotterdam. Her practice is driven by curiosity and the eagerness to learn and explore new materials and techniques. Mostly focused on analog work such as sewing, quilting, and silkscreen, she aims to address social topics, create community, and highlight collaboration through design. As a feminist and activist, Amber Zara incorporates critical thinking and social awareness into her creative process. In her practice, she explores the concept of “everyday resistance” and researches annotation between textile practices and resilience, and how these practices can be reclaimed.
She is a conceptual thinker and problem solver who enjoys doing research and aims to approach projects with a new perspective and a critical eye.

Currently, Amber Zara works as a workshop host and textile educator for children and young adults. Further, she is a gallery host and the graphic designer of MINA030 (an Utrecht-based feminist magazine). Lastly, she spends a lot of time behind her mechanical knitting machine, where she creates abstract shapes and objects.

Stay tuned to hear about our future endeavors with Nyata! We are always open to collaborations, so contact us at info@nyatacollective.com taken in Rotterdam, Netherlands by @amberzaraa

Puffy cushions made on the mechanical knitting machine.

I bought a mechanical knitting machine and for the past months I have been experimenting with different shapes and yarn. I discovered elastic yarn and experimented with creating texture during the knitting. I am excited to try more colors and shapes!

We are happy to announce that we will be working together as a duo named nyata collective!

The word Nyata is an Indonesian word for real or tangible that is based on facts, but we hope to dismantle the definition into a word for merging the invisible and visible into a tangible shared experience.

We have hosted multiple workshops (and will host more in the future), where we dive into different modes of harvesting knowledge through textile practices, such as batik and experimental embroidery. We aim to dismantel the boundaries between physical and invisible matters through community building.

There is more to come, stay tuned!
We are open for future colaborations. by @amberzaraa

Last week we had the honor to host a workshop at @gdarnhem for project month.

During this workshop, called Do(n't) Write Outside the Margins we experimented with cyanotype and weaving. We questioned the digital binary system on Instagram and broke the boundaries of information censorship by revealing silences, gaps, trauma, and pain, serving as a space of refusal and resistance. What is inside the margins and who is placed outside?

We had a lot of fun and thanks to the students the results where amazing!

This workshop and its result will be part of a bigger project called Archiving the Transmission of Knowledge. Soon on display in Amsterdam. Stay tuned! by @amberzaraa
