Over the past few months, together with @ambientravexp, we’ve delved into the history of ambient house and its contemporary descendant. This research resulted in a series of features, including writings by Hannah Pezzack, F.P. from A.R.X., Vitaly Weber, 377O73-QÂF, and a brilliant David Toop in conversation with Luigi Monteanni, available online and in print in this limited edition publication that we handed out during our event at @triennalemilano on June 14. A big thank you to everyone who joined us last Sunday for a new chapter of Hyperlocal Club dedicated to ambient music, from its ‘90s roots in the chill-rooms of Brixton to its contemporary algorithmic iterations in Europe, with a particular focus on the scene’s configuration and its strong political stance. Co-curated with A.R.X. and featuring C3, the club brought together labels, artists, and collectives from the UK, Italy, and the Netherlands for a collective listening experience across the spaces and gardens of Voce Triennale. Ambient music isn’t properly a genre, but a way of listening shaped by the instability of contemporary life. In this conversation, David Toop, a leading figure in the study of contemporary music and sound cultures, and Luigi Monteanni @exotica_neurotica revisit the history of ambient, moving from ritual and free improvisation to algorithmic culture, tracing how sound can reconfigure perception and reopen a relation with the world beyond productivity and digital saturation.Photo by Andrej Chudy, Luke Fowler, Marie RouxRead the full conversation at the link in bio. by @ambientravexp

Moving through his childhood memory, nightclub architecture and metaphysical theories of light, Vitaly Weber reflects on the dancefloor as a space where perception is reorganised. Centred on Milan’s A.R.X. gatherings, the personal essay follows how light and sound cease to merely illuminate bodies. becoming forces that orient attention, and transform collective experience into an almost ritual condition.Read the personal essay written by @gamble_mumble in link in bio.Photo by @pixel_aggression , @aria.ruffini e Vitaly Weber by @ambientravexp

In this work of speculative fiction, the character 377O73-QÂF—hypostasis of this musical and ambient interregnum—recounts A.R.X. as an hallucinatory sonic ecosystem populated by a promiscuity of dancing bodies. Moving through T.A.Z. and altered states of perception, 377O73-QÂF invokes how sound ceases to be mere communication and becomes a force that slowly reshapes bodies, communities, and imaginaries. Blending psychoacoustics, collective ritual, and speculative philosophy, 377O73-QÂF reflects on ambient music as a threshold between memory and anticipation, and between presence and transcendence; as a practice of drift, metamorphosis, and collective becoming.Illustration by @broshudaofficial Read more at the link in bio by @ambientravexp

“There are few genres I enjoy quite as much as drone,” confesses Hannah Pezzack. “That most sparse of musics: devoid of rhythm, marked instead by melting intensity; oscillating textures and timbre. From its ambient iterations—suspended in seemingly endless tone clusters, the mind falling away in wet chunks — to the black metal fury of outfits like Sunn O))), with Stephen O’Malley’s distorted guitar rippling through my sternum, enacting the sonic equivalent of a Francis Bacon painting: viscous, bodily, reminding me that yes, indeed, I am only meat after all.”Read Hannah’s sonic wonderings as she meticulously traces the history of drone music at the link in bio.Written by @hanapezzack by @ambientravexp

From the sweat-drenched chill-out rooms of early-90s Brixton to the algorithmic sprawl of contemporary ambient rave: how a music born to hold bodies through altered states became a survival grammar for the dissociative drift of digital capitalism in a world that never quite comes down.Read the full essay at link in bio.Written by @ppsychic.nomad Illustrated by @suonidisorganizzati by @ambientravexp

Pressure of Speech - Our Common Past, Our Common Future (ARKS02) is finally released in its entirety, available on @clonedistribution , in the best stores around and on our bandcamp page, where you’ll find also two new digital-only tracks. Dig it!______________________________________________Originally issued in 1996 by North South as the follow-up to their acclaimed debut Art of the State and the Assume Nothing EP, Our Common Past, Our Common Future amplifies the dark, psychedelic technoid textures of its predecessor but takes them to a further degree of abstraction and displacement. Grounded in conflict and material reality, its imaginative reach sketches pathways beyond the suffocating circuitry of the entertainment industry.<< Funny reviews — always wanting to make us a dance band… We always considered Pressure of Speech to be folk music: protest songs and stories about the land. We’re more relevant now than we were then, given the politics of the world... In the mid-’90s everybody was on happy pills except me and Mickey! We were always more into mind expansion than E or that nasty McDonald’s-style sniff stuff that kills people and ideas. There’s a great quote that says we’re "more Karl Marx than Carl Cox" — very funny, and very true. >>______________________________________________Pressure of Speech is: Michey Mann / DJ Stika & @loseyluke .Recorded at Hoxton Market Studio and Milo Studio, East London.Originally released by North South Records, London, 1996.Original artwork by Green Machine Design.A&R - @inner.lakes Words - @ppsychic.nomad Remastered from original DAT at @tws_______ , Milan.Cut by Roberto Barbolini. by @ambientravexp

Happy to announce that the remastered 12” of Pressure of Speech — Our Common Past, Our Common Future (ARKS02) will be out on December 1st. The album is distributed by @clonedistribution and available via link in bio 🔦Originally issued in 1996 and now re-pressed for the first time by A.R.X. ( @ambientravexp ) and Krisis Publishing (@krisispublishing ), Pressure of Speech “Our Common Past, Our Common Future” remains one of the best-kept secrets of 1990s British electronica. Founded by Mickey Mann, together with fellow explorers Luke Losey (lighting designer for Orbital) and DJ Stika (already part of Spiral Tribe), their elusive second album is an obsidian relic of screwed ambient techno, mutant breakbeat and hypnotic radical sounds excavated from the goldmine of the UK’s post-rave underground.Credits: Pressure of Speech is: Michey Mann / DJ Stika & @loseyluke .Recorded at Hoxton Market Studio and Milo Studio, East London.Originally released by North South Records, London, 1996.Original artwork by Green Machine Design.A&R - @inner.lakes Words - @ppsychic.nomad Remastered from original DAT at @tws_______ , Milan.Cut by Roberto Barbolini. by @ambientravexp

Dear people from the floating world, here’s a last offering before melting away in the raging sun.eoobe - Auotopoiesis, Suspended (A.R.X., 2025)LTD. transparent red cassette in 3D printed shell, edition of 23A very special release by beloved friends and talented artists @elinatapio and @_la_serpiente__ as eobee delivering six pieces of third-ear drone music, trascendental noises and mind-warping spectres from the depths. As you can see, the tape itself is a pretty unique object w/ a 3D printed shell designed and crafted by @johnsmidlow Super ltd., don’t think twice. Hope you’ll find a cool breeze out there 🕳️________________________________eoobe is the hanged man balanced on a thinly veiled frontier before its chimeric unravelling. A moment in time where discovering light is to hold it and turn it inside out. With a focus on raw sonic expressions produced during recording sessions attentive to chance and unrepeatability, these six tracks respectively harness a confrontational harshness enveloped in a body of cosmic submersion: a play between transcendence and immanence that always results in one being digested and reproduced by the other. A dynamic truth and its opposition heard as a deceptive grin.________________________________Recorded & Produced by Elina Tapio & Marco SegatoTrumpet on "The Womb Ov Impossible Forms" by @jacopobudaOriginal Harp Recording on "Memento Mei" by Debra Gomez-TapioMixed by Marco SegatoMastered by @tws_______3D printed cassette shell by @johnsmidlowPics 1-5 by @aria.ruffini Pic 6 by @chaosrideressSpecial thanks to @presspoint_milano for the j-card printing by @ambientravexp
