It was a lovely weekend in DC for the DCLX, followed by a little Smithsonian time, and then my birthday back in Jax.

I've had so much time with friends, met so many more (thanks to DCLX), I've danced many dances, had many good foods (and pickles - because people gifted me many birthday pickles and I'm thrilled), and people even noticed my eyeshadow under my glasses nearly all weekend!

"Would you like a Lindy Lion of Friendship?"

So many people (most who remotely recognize my face from a dance scene) have heard me ask that question, before pulling a lion out of my pocket. You should know they come with terms and conditions. First, every Lindy Lion deserves a name, so you should name it (take as long as you'd like). Second, if I'm still in the vicinity when you think of your name, I'd love to know. I really do keep a log of the lion names. And lastly, (and optionally) if you happen to be going to Lindy Focus, bring your lion, and bring it to the group picture.

I've been telling people these "rules" since DCLX last year and I am utterly astounded how many people have bought into this little Liondy Hop community. I am thrilled by the array of confused or surprised or delighted responses I get to asking people out of nowhere if they'd like a lion of friendship. I think this is the best random use of free will I've found so far.

So thank you to everyone with a lion who has engaged in the chaos. And double thanks to those who have sent update pictures or posted their lions - I love to see where they end up.

I know I'm a bit late on the post-Focus post (the Focus flu hit hard this year) but I had to make one anyway.

Lindy Focus is my favourite Holiday. I found that out this year when a friend asked me and I realized it truly is. This was only my second Focus but it filled my heart with so much life. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to dance with so many delightful people, to connect with very dear friends who I don't see as often, to meet new dancers each year, and to find that so many of these fleeting connections are turning into friendships.

There is something beautiful about the community provided by Lindy Focus. I am always grateful for how cozy and inviting the Lobby is - to be in a space full of chatter and jazz and dozens of people crafting and reconnecting. I am always amazed at how willing people are to participate in nonsense - like Liondy Focus. I am so grateful for a place where there is blues well into the night (I was in the blues survivor photo 4 of 5 nights), and I am grateful to be able to experience sunrise on New Year's Eve and then go back to dancing.

So to all my lovely friends who laughed with me, to everyone who got and named a lion, to everyone who danced with me, to all the wonderful musicians and DJs and organizers, I say thank you so so so much for making my favourite Holiday magical again this year.

I love these humans so much! So grateful for the ability to dance and spend time with some of my favorite people lately.

Lindy hop has given me so much community and a beautiful place to be delightfully weird. I'm grateful to everyone who has accepted a Lindy Lion of Friendship. I'm grateful to every person who has laughed at a weird dance love or idea I've had. And mostly I'm grateful to my friends who encourage and sow the chaos every step of the way.

I had the best week recently at DCLX with some of my dearest friends and spending my birthday in DC... Then coming home to have more dancing with more friends to celebrate.

Truly feel like I've gotten some life back in me. Here's to more dancing, good music, stuffed lions, late nights with blues, silly photos, weird adventures, and especially more time spent with those who give us joy and laughter. by @ambrielc

I'm feeling so much joy after ending the year and ringing in the new one at Lindy Focus for the first time. So glad to spend time with these wonderful humans and In had a blast dancing until the wee hours of the morning every night - well, past sunrise the last 2 nights so the not-so-wee hours of the morning.

I can't wait for the next dancing adventure in 2025.
