3 years ago today my brother overdosed on fentanyl and passed away. The pain, the mourning, the little reminders, you hear people talk about it, but you truly don’t know the feeling of grief till you experience it. I share this because it defines who I am, I wake up and try everyday because my brother doesn’t get to. My brother loved football but he had knee issues, he kept dislocating it, and kept getting prescribed more pain meds, his career was over and so was he. Without football he had nothing to define himself as. Every time I see an athlete get injured, I get so worried, I pray they have a good support system to help them. I find myself asking “why him”, how come other addicts were able to get sober and not him? Did he not want to? What was his barrier? Questions I’ll never get answered, so I capture memories for other families, I wish I had more videos and photos of my brother doing what he loved, I’ve spent countless nights trying to find footage of him playing. I miss my brother everyday, but if I had the choice to bring him back, knowing he would never get sober, I wouldn’t do it. My brother doesn’t have to struggle anymore, and although his presence is not here on earth, I feel him everyday. I miss you Mike. by @ambrinacaptures
