Potential Hazards
Friday…Wind gusts 30-35 MPH in the late afternoon and night
Saturday…None
Sunday…Wind gusts 15 to 25 MPH

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Minor tweaks to the timing of the winds.

General Discussion
No major changes to this forecast. I’ve made some minor tweaks to the timing of the winds Friday through Sunday. The strongest winds will be associated with the passage of the cold front. The models are in good agreement with bringing the front across the race course between 4 and 6 PM Friday. There could be a few sprinkles immediately behind the front, otherwise it will be dry. However, as the cold front passes, the winds will increase to 15 to 30 MPH, with a few gusts to 35 MPH. These winds will continue into the evening hours and possibly after midnight Friday night. The strong winds will diminish somewhat on Saturday, but increase again by Sunday afternoon with wind speeds of 15 to 25 MPH.

An Infield Weather Advisory for Winds will likely be needed Friday afternoon and night… and also on Sunday.

An Infield Weather Advisory is to alert the infield of the good potential for the following…
Winds (sustained or gusts) greater than 15 MPH
Thunderstorm wind gusts greater than 15 MPH and Lightning
Heavy rain of 0.50” or greater by @ambweather

Potential Hazards
Friday…Wind gusts 25 to 30 MPH in the late afternoon and evening
Saturday…None
Sunday…Wind gusts 15 to 25 MPH

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Increased the winds late Friday afternoon and evening.
Lowered the wind speeds Saturday.
Increased the winds Sunday.

General Discussion
A pretty calm weather pattern continues through early Friday with clear skies and above normal temperatures. A strong, but dry cold front will move rapidly across Allatoona Friday afternoon. This will bring a few clouds, but the real story will be the very strong winds. Winds will increase rapidly by mid to late afternoon on Friday and continue into Friday night with wind gusts of 25 to 30 MPH likely. The winds will diminish Saturday to 5 to 10 MPH, but increase again Sunday morning with gusts of 15 to 25 MPH.

An Infield Weather Advisory for Winds will likely be needed Friday afternoon and night… and also on Sunday.

Potential Hazards
Friday…Wind gusts 15 to 25 MPH in the late afternoon and evening
Saturday…Wind gusts 15 to 20 MPH in the afternoon
Sunday…Wind gusts 15 to 20 MPH in the afternoon

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Minor tweaks to the timing of the cold front and onset of the gusty winds on Friday.

General Discussion
The forecast remains mostly unchanged with a few minor tweaks to the timing of the cold front on Friday. This will push back the gusty winds until later in the afternoon and evening. There is still a risk of a late day shower with the front, but amounts will be light, if any. It will become windy both Saturday and Sunday afternoon along with much cooler temperatures.

An Infield Weather Advisory for Winds may be needed Friday through Sunday.

It will be mostly sunny with above normal temperatures this week across the Georgia Cycling area. A strong cold front will move into north Georgia Friday afternoon. This will bring a few showers along with winds gusting in the 25 to 30 MPH over north Georgia Friday afternoon, mainly north of Atlanta and Gainesville.

INFIELD WEATHER ADVISORY THIS TODAY

Potential Hazards
Friday…Wind gusts 15 to 25 MPH
Saturday…Wind gusts 15 to 25 MPH
Sunday…Wind gusts 15 to 20 MPH

General Discussion
A mostly dry forecast for this week with a significant change by the weekend. The week will start out sunny with above normal temperatures, but that will change by the end of the week. A strong, but mostly dry cold front will move across the state on Friday. There is an outside chance of a shower in the afternoon associated with the cold front, otherwise it will be dry. The main story will be the much colder temperatures and the windy conditions. While temperatures are not expected to drop significantly on Friday, the weekend temperatures will be considerably colder than what we have experienced so far this season. It will also become windy Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon with wind gust in the 15 to 25 MPH range. It will continue to be windy on Sunday, however at this time I do not expect any wind gust greater than 20 MPH Sunday afternoon.

An Infield Weather Advisory for Winds may be needed Friday through Sunday.

…HURRICANE ISAIAS WILL IMPACT THE GEORGIA CYCLING AREA SATURDAY…
Hurricane Isaias, currently a Cat 1 hurricane over the central Gulf, will strengthen and move north northeast today and Friday, making landfall Friday evening along the Alabama/Extreme Western Florida Panhandle. It will then make a slight turn to the north northwest Friday night and move over western Alabama and into Tennessee on Saturday. Although the center Isaias will be well west of Georgia, its impacts will be felt across the Georgia Cycling area. Rain, heavy at times will spread across the state Friday night and Saturday. The heaviest rain will fall over the extreme west and north parts of the state where 2 to 4” of rain are likely, with 1 to 2” elsewhere. Winds will increase late Friday and Saturday with sustained winds of 25 to 35 MPH on Saturday, although a few higher gusts are likely, mainly in the rain bands. I can’t rule out an isolated tornado on Saturday in the stronger rain bands. All of this will clear out from west to east on Sunday.

High pressure will build into the state today and Tuesday. This will bring dry and windy conditions to the state, especially on Tuesday where winds will be in the 15 to 30 MPH range. The dry conditions will not reach the Savannah area until late Tuesday as light to occasionally moderate rain will continue today and early Tuesday, ending in the afternoon. It will remain dry across the state Wednesday through Friday. However, in south Georgia, moisture returns on Friday bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Savannah area Friday afternoon.

INFIELD WEATHER ADVISORY THIS TODAY

Potential Hazards
Today…Scattered to numerous thunderstorms
Heavy rain possible in the afternoon

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Tweaks made to the chances of rain.

General Discussion
An Infield Weather Advisory remains in effect beginning this afternoon and continuing into Sunday for the following…
Today… rainfall greater than 0.50”, mainly in the afternoon

Latest radar shows widely scattered showers developing from near Columbus to south of Macon to Savannah. A larger area of showers and a few thunderstorms was over southern Alabama. All of this activity was moving northeast.

The latest Hi-Resolution models show the widely scattered showers increasing over the next several hours as they move northeast toward Milledgeville. The area over southern Alabama will move into west Georgia this morning, and into Milledgeville between 1 and 2 PM today. Some of the rainfall could be heavy this afternoon, and for that reason the Weather Prediction Center is keep most of the state in a flash flood outlook.

An Infield Weather Advisory is to alert the infield of the good potential for the following…
General winds (sustained or gusts) greater than 15 MPH
Thunderstorm wind gusts greater than 15 MPH

INFIELD WEATHER ADVISORY TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY

Potential Hazards
Today…scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, numerous thunderstorms late afternoon and evening
Sunday…scattered thunderstorms
Heavy rain possible in the afternoon

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Minor tweaks to the chances of rain this afternoon and tonight.

General Discussion
An Infield Weather Advisory remains in effect beginning this afternoon and continuing into Sunday for the following…
Today…thunderstorm wind gusts in the afternoon and evening
Sunday…rainfall greater than 0.50”, mainly in the afternoon

I’ve made some minor tweaks to the chances of rain today. Scattered thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and become more numerous after 4 PM. An area of low pressure will develop over the northern Gulf today and move northeast on Sunday. This will spread showers and a few thunderstorms over the racecourse beginning late Sunday morning and continuing into the afternoon.

An Infield Weather Advisory is to alert the infield of the good potential for the following…
General winds (sustained or gusts) greater than 15 MPH
Thunderstorm wind gusts greater than 15 MPH
Heavy rain of 0.50” or greater by @ambweather

INFIELD WEATHER ADVISORY THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY

Potential Hazards
Friday…scattered thunderstorms
Saturday…scattered thunderstorms in the day, numerous thunderstorms late afternoon and evening
Sunday…scattered thunderstorms
Heavy rain possible in the afternoon

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Increased the chances of rain today and Sunday.
Increased the rain amounts Saturday night and Sunday.

General Discussion
An Infield Weather Advisory is now in effect beginning this afternoon and continuing into Sunday for the following…
Friday…thunderstorm wind gusts in the afternoon and evening
Saturday…thunderstorm wind gusts in the afternoon and evening
Sunday…rainfall greater than 0.50”, mainly in the afternoon

There is good agreement in the models and it is giving a higher confidence in the forecast. The overall forecast has not changed with two main rain waves. The first one moving across the racecourse late Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. The second wave will move across the race course late Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. In between the waves there will be scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts have increased Saturday night and Sunday and therefore I have also increased the forecast rain amounts.

An Infield Weather Advisory is to alert the infield of the good potential for the following…
General winds (sustained or gusts) greater than 15 MPH
Thunderstorm wind gusts greater than 15 MPH
Heavy rain of 0.50” or greater by @ambweather

INFIELD WEATHER ADVISORY FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY

Potential Hazards
Friday…scattered thunderstorms
Saturday…scattered thunderstorms in the day, numerous thunderstorms late afternoon and evening
  Heavy rain possible
Sunday…scattered thunderstorms
Heavy rain possible in the afternoon

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Increased the chances of rain Friday afternoon through Sunday.

General Discussion
An Infield Weather Advisory is now in effect beginning Friday afternoon and continuing into Sunday for the following…
Friday…thunderstorm wind gusts in the afternoon and evening
Saturday…thunderstorm wind gusts in the afternoon and evening, and rainfall greater than 0.50” Saturday night
Sunday…rainfall greater than 0.50”, mainly in the afternoon

The models are coming together again and are showing a little more moisture. They are also bringing in the moisture a little earlier on Friday and for that reason I’ve raised the chances of thunderstorms Friday afternoon. While there will be showers and thunderstorms scattered throughout the day Saturday and Sunday, there will be a couple of main waves of rain moving across the race course that will bring in more numerous showers and thunderstorms. The first will move across the area late Saturday afternoon and into Saturday evening. The second will move across the area Sunday afternoon. General rainfall amounts will be between 0.75” and 1.25”, however any heavy rain band could produce rainfall in excess of 1.50”.

An Infield Weather Advisory is to alert the infield of the good potential for the following…
General winds (sustained or gusts) greater than 15 MPH
Thunderstorm wind gusts greater than 15 MPH
Heavy rain of 0.50” or greater by @ambweather

Potential Hazards
Friday…scattered thunderstorms
Saturday…scattered thunderstorms in the day, numerous thunderstorms at night
  Heavy rain possible
Sunday…scattered thunderstorms

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Increased the chances of rain Saturday and Sunday.

General Discussion
Once again the models are diverging with the forecast and this has brought some uncertainty in the timing of the rain and the rainfall amounts. I’ve gone with a consensus which is pretty close to the current forecast. I raised the chances of rain both Saturday and Sunday, but it should be noted that the best chance of rain on Saturday will come in the mid to late afternoon hours, then increasing during the evening as a backdoor front moves out of South Carolina and across the racecourse. The main upper level energy will move across the racecourse Sunday and this will keep rain likely during the day with just a chance of thunderstorms. Sunday could be more of a rain event versus a thunderstorm event, and therefore I keep the chances of thunderstorms in the Yellow category.

An Infield Weather Advisory may be needed for Saturday afternoon through Sunday.
