The Weekly Study Reset: Measure, Adjust, and Thrive Weekly

If you want to sustain high performance throughout medical school, consistency requires calibration. When you measure, adjust, and thrive weekly, you realize that weekly reflection reveals useful patterns that help you avoid burnout. By reviewing your results at week’s end, you can track your focus across study sessions, note when your energy naturally declines, and match your most difficult work with your cognitive peaks. Identify active-learning friction points by spotting obstacles that slow down your active practice, removing distractions, and simplifying your routines before adding new tools. Calibrate your studies every Sunday by conducting weekly review audits, identifying workflow friction points, adjusting your methods using real evidence, and planning your next week intentionally. Small adjustments compound over time, and consistent audits support steady growth.

3 Ways to Request a Strong Letter of Recommendation: Facilitated Sessions Shorts

Securing a powerful letter of recommendation after shadowing requires a strategic approach rather than a generic request. In this session, Dr. Asante M. Dickson breaks down three essential ways to request a strong letter of recommendation. In this clip, we explore how to set expectations early by informing the physician early in your rotation that you hope to earn their trust and support. Discover why making it easy by furnishing a brag sheet consisting of your CV, a personal statement draft, and patient interactions helps, and why giving them a graceful out ensures a genuine and supportive response.

Sleep Beats Cramming: Why Rest Protects Learning, Memory, and Performance

When exam season hits, late-night cramming feels like the only option, but choosing sleep over cramming is actually your highest-yield strategy. Sleep protects your learning and judgment, while late cramming increases costly mistakes and executive function crashes. Fatigue impairs recall and focus, leaving tired brains with slower, less accurate processing and weakened attention. In contrast, sleep consolidates lasting memories by replaying newly encoded information overnight, making memories more stable and strengthening later retrieval. To protect your cognitive bandwidth, set a firm study cutoff, trust your preparation instead of panicking, and choose rest over panic.

This topic ties directly into this week’s theme of our Facilitated Sessions podcast, titled The Science of Learning, where we dive deeper into mastering these exact strategies.

Stop Transcribing Lectures: Why Active Engagement Beats Passive Note-Taking

If you find yourself frantically trying to copy every word during a lecture, it is time to ditch passive transcription. Transcription consumes your limited attention without actual processing, and copied words rarely create true understanding. To transform your learning, replace transcription with active engagement by summarizing ideas using your own language, using split-pages and shorthand to capture keywords instead of full sentences, and structuring complex lecture objectives instantly by grouping themes and marking core mechanisms. Eliminate passive note-taking, promote active thinking, and focus on recording relationships instead of every single phrase.

This topic ties directly into this week’s theme of our Facilitated Sessions podcast, titled The Science of Learning, where we dive deeper into mastering these exact strategies.
