Sometimes we believe that if we plan everything and try to control just one more thing, everything will fall into place. But life doesn’t always work out that way. I realized I couldn’t do it all by myself, and over time, I started to lose sight of who I was. The pressure, the tears, and not recognizing myself anymore became overwhelming. Being a student-athlete is both rewarding and challenging. For a long time, it became my whole identity. People knew me as “Amelia the gymnast” or “Amelia who runs track.” I was proud of that. But when things didn’t go as I hoped, like facing injuries and setbacks, I started to question everything. I kept going, not out of love, but because I didn’t know who I was without it. Scared of change and wondering what my next purpose was. At the same time, I was trying to get through nursing school, facing long study nights and constant stress. It started to feel like too much. On the outside, I looked cheerful and fine, but inside I was struggling and fearful, afraid to let anyone notice. Even with all the challenges, I’m grateful for everything Kent State Track and Field has given me: the greatest friendships, amazing memories, and the feeling of being part of something bigger. This is a bit of a vulnerable post, but I want others to know that you are more than any title, sport, or expectation. Don’t lose yourself trying to be what you think you should be. Your mental health matters; you are wanted and loved. Track will always mean a lot to me, but I think it’s time to close this chapter of my life and find something else waiting for me. ❤️‍🩹 by @amelia.s21
