THE DRAGON & THE SUN LOTUS is a #3 New York Times bestseller! 🥹 Overwhelmingly grateful doesn’t begin to describe how I’m feeling. It’s felt like a quieter release on my end as I focused on bank work and rest/health these past months. And growing a tiny human! I’m hungry all the time now and had two lunches today, can you believe it 😆

My eternal thanks to my publishing team: @kbmarino @petejknapp @getunderlined @parkfinebrower and the Random House Children’s team. I’m so glad & lucky to call them home! 🤍

She’s here! THE DRAGON AND THE SUN LOTUS is here! 🐉✨🪷

Release day is always interesting, because it feels like the calm after the storm. Leading up to publication, we’re juggling promo, social media, interviews, other deadlines, and trying to give our books the best chance to find its readers. Similarly, it feels like an eon has passed between my handing in the final pass for DRAGON and publication day today. I spent the past half year acclimating to pregnancy, which comes with a rollercoaster of joy, excitement, anxiety, and symptoms. I was exhausted and sick in late 2025; I wasn’t able to read or write or even eat on many days. (This is on the spectrum of normal symptoms! But it doesn’t mean it’s not hard, nor that we shouldn’t talk about it.) I felt guilty being unable to dedicate more time to talking about this book and to writing.

But when I sat down to take this release day photo on Saturday morning, I felt only a calming sense of joy. The sun was bright and pouring through my windows, the skies were blue and snow glittered on my lawn. It seemed like serendipity to hold up this book of my heart with an ending of sunlit seas and open skies and snap a picture.

Today, THE DRAGON AND THE SUN LOTUS is out of my hands and into yours. It’s still my favorite ending I’ve ever written, and I hope you love it as much as I do. I’m grateful for the reader reviews that have reflected that, and if you’ve picked up a copy or talked about it to family or friends, thank you! In particular, my thanks to my stellar editor @kbmarino for bringing this book to the best that it can be; my agent @petejknapp for all the support; the entire team at @getunderlined and RHCB for championing my works. Thank you to @danzhu.hu for the prettiest cover ever; Liz Dresner for the cover direction. And so excited for you audiobook readers to listen to @annie.q.riegel’s rendering!

I spent a full morning yesterday signing and personalizing all your preorders at Yu & Me Books! This is my favorite thing to do for each release, and this year was no exception. I’m always touched by my readers who are braving shipping costs to request personalized copies from me, and I try to do each one with care. International readers especially, I see you — and I tried to add a little something to make your copy extra special 🤍 Thank you, thank you, thank you. (Including: my favorite quotes from the book in Chinese, favorite Chinese poems/idioms, attempted doodles of dragons, dragonhorses, my characters, and cats 😆) Reminder while I have you here to submit your pre0rder swag claim to my publisher’s site in my bio! I’ve received questions about a launch this year, and I’m sorry to say I won’t be doing one because … I’m quite pregnant! We are expecting our first baby boy this May, and are beyond excited and already in love with him 🥹 Hence, I’ve been prioritizing rest for this year. Some of you have noticed that I’ve canceled all my events this year (I’m sorry if you’ve reached out to ask!). The only appearance I’ll be doing this year will be BookCon in April.

Huge shoutout to Theresa at @yuandmebooks for running up and down those stairs about a million times yesterday to lug over new batches of books for me to keep signing. And to my most wonderful husband, who waited almost 4 hours in our car for me because there were no parking spots in Chinatown 😭 I’m very blessed.

THE DRAGON AND THE SUN LOTUS releases March 3, 2026 and here is the synopsis:

A decade ago, the Kingdom of Night began the war against the Kingdom of Rivers, ravaging the lands and releasing mó—beautiful, ravenous demons—to roam free, drinking the souls of mortals. Now the mó have made it beyond the magical wards of the immortal realm—the Kingdom of Sky—and will not stop until the entire world falls to darkness.

Àn’yīng is determined to banish the mó to their realm and return the mortal realm to peace. But a stunning betrayal has turned the tides of this war: Her handsome rival from the Immortality Trials and the man she was falling in love with, Yù’chén, is now the enemy. Yù’chén is half mó, his mother none other than Sansiran, the Demon Queen of the Kingdom of Night . . . and the monster responsible for killing Àn’yīng’s father.
