For anyone who loves gothic books and wants to read more indie books but feels like it can be difficult to find them, I thought this would be helpful!

I want to put together a public spreadsheet with gothic indie authors so you can easily find them and browse their stuff whenever you want.

If you’re a reader, please share with any gothic indie authors you think would want to be added to the spreadsheet!

If you’re an indie author who writes gothic books, please fill out the Google form at the 🔗 in bi0!

FAQs

🖤Can I fill out the form if my book isn’t out yet?
Yes!! If you have your first book coming up, definitely fill out the form.

🖤Can I use a Storygraph link instead of a Goodreads link?
Yes! I’ll update the form to mention that. Ideally, it’ll be a “neutral” link (like on a review site of some kind) rather than a sales link that way readers can add your book to their digital TBR. by @ameliewestbooks

Looking for a book that'll make you feel like the fog is slowly closing in and dancing up your skin?
Look no further than... 🌊The Last Daughter of Usher Isle🌊 by @ameliewestbooks - the perfect spooky foggy autumn morning read 🐦‍⬛🕯

Blurb:
Six years have passed since Aurelia last set foot on Usher Isle, a remote island off the coast of Maine that once felt like a second home. But when a letter arrives from her childhood friend, Madeline Usher—written in the grip of a mysterious illness—Aurelia cannot refuse the plea to return.

Upon her arrival, she is drawn once more into the rhythms of the isolated Usher household. But Madeline is not the girl she remembers, her condition worsening in ways no physician can explain. And Roderick—the man she left behind—has been changed by time and grief.

It is not long before something feels wrong. The air hangs heavy, the rooms oppressive, and sleep brings vivid, disquieting dreams. At night, she glimpses Madeline wandering the grounds in her nightdress, though by morning no one speaks of it.

As Aurelia searches for the cause of her friend’s decline, she becomes increasingly uncertain whether what she’s experiencing is illness, madness, or something more nefarious. And the longer she remains, the more it feels as though the house might not let her leave.

Tropes:
🌊 A decaying family manor by the sea
🐦‍⬛ A curse that only affects the daughters
🌊 A secluded island off the coast of Maine in 1888
🐦‍⬛ A slow-burn gothic romance
🌊 An eerie, gloomy atmosphere
🐦‍⬛ Inspired by The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe

🕯Coming November 17th🕯add to your TBR on Goodreads and pre-order now!

Bram Stoker clearly wrote something special with Dracula—I mean, it’s been over 100 years since it was published and people are still doing remakes and reimaginings! However, if there’s one thing I would have wanted to be different in the original, it’s this …

If you’ve read Dracula by Bram Stoker, please let me know if you agree!! by @ameliewestbooks

By the way, this painting is actually of me every time I hear someone say that indie authors all secretly wish they were traditionally published.

Clearly some people in this community just don’t believe anyone could POSSIBLY want to be indie, and we must secretly be seething with envy when we see trad pub authors … so I guess I’ll keep shouting into the void for my own sake 😂

If you want to be traditionally published and you are, then I am genuinely so happy for you. But no, I (an indie author) don’t want to be a trad pub author. So let’s stop with this weird blanket statement I keep seeing. by @ameliewestbooks

Let’s talk about how creating bookish content is actually contributing to the literacy crisis …

Except, that’s a very weird take and it’d be great if people stopped throwing buzz words around to feel superior 🧍‍♀️

Anyway, here are some amazing bookish accounts to follow depending on your personal preferences, because we are adults who can simply follow or unfollow to see more of what we enjoy 🖤

Classic & vintage vampire books 🦇

The magazines from the 30s/40s are just because there was a period of time when vampire sci-fi short stories had become especially trendy so I thought I’d include a couple here!

Have you read many of these? by @ameliewestbooks
