The shoes feature a hand-painted broken bone replacing the classic Vans side stripe, a bold red warning graphic with text inspired by the showโ€™s opening disclaimer, and blood-splattered laces and midsoles for a distressed early-2000s aesthetic. I've had the idea of creating a Jackass-inspired design sitting in the back of my mind for a long time. It's a tribute to the childhood I grew up with-glued to MTV, waiting for the music videos and songs I loved, while consuming content that God knows how it ever got approved for television, and that would never have a chance of airing today. I got this pair of Vans from a friend because they were too small for him. It happened just a few months after I'd first said the idea out loud. Around the same time, I heard that the final Jackass movie was coming out, and I knew this collaboration simply had to happen. The vision of turning the Vans side stripe into a broken bone came to me instantly. Once I started working on the digital sketch, I played around with different elements associated with the series and chose the iconic warning card that appeared at the beginning of every episode- a kind of drumroll before the brilliantly stupid chaos that was about to unfold. Only after I cut the piece of leather I was going to use to create the broken bone did it hit me: I should draw it with a tattoo machine. It gave the piece the gritty, realistic look that ties the entire concept of this shoe together. A tribute to the early 2000s.
