Meet Gabriel & his two good boys. As my boys and I crossed from Baja Sur into Baja Norte in Guerrero Negro ( a Salt mining Town) we stopped to get more road supplies. Water, gas, snacks and turkey for the boys. I kept a few slices for Mateo and Papita, but these boys are very well fed, even on a long road adventure through Baja. As we had done on the way down, we gave some snacks to as many dogs as we could when we stopped in different cities, gas stations and the really smart boys who hang around restaurants and street carts.

The truth is that there are many unhoused street dogs in Mexico, but the Mexican people love them and feed them as they can. They might not have a permanent home, yet they are still loved and never euthanized for simply “running out of space” It is sad to see dogs on the streets, yet it is even sadder to see humans not have enough or work so much just to have nothing to show and still be hungry.

When I asked Gabriel if these were his dogs and if so, may I feed them, he said “Si, muchas gracias…” and as I was giving them some cold cuts, the look on Gabriel’s eyes were the same as his boys, so I offered him some cuts as well.

He was gracious and wished us a safe and fun trip back.

Empathy and love is what attracts me to the road. We love meeting and breaking bread with new folks.

Core memories were made.

Stay tuned for some more photos and stories from our Lost & Found Baja Adventures with the Papitas 🍟 Papita, Mateo aka “Chancho” and me, their driver.

2 of the hardest and humble workers we’ve had. We’ll call them Juan & Alejandro. Juan is from Michoacán and Alejandro is from Pachuca. Both chose to leave their homes many years ago for more opportunities. Both pay taxes (without the rewards) both incredibly talented, hard working and humble.

I broke bread 🥖 with both and asked them about their lives and it never seems to amaze me more than understanding where one comes from and more importantly, their dreams and goals in life.
Immigrants are not a number to forget.

The immigrant story is different. Wherever your family comes from, they made a conscious decision to go after life and make it better for a variety of reasons.

My love for this country is complicated, but I do not take it for granted, the choice my mom and dad made to come here and live the “American Dream”

All I know is I am surrounded by hard working, intelligent and diverse group of people that I would break bread 7 different ways to Sunday, especially Sunday!

Food, music, culture. 🤌🏽❤️

Immigrants are not your enemies, they are your neighbors, your friends, your kids’ teachers, lawyers, tradesmen, doctors, stylists, filmmakers, photographers, landscapers. Electricians, plumbers and yes day laborers that work 10 hour days in the 105 degree sun ☀️ say thank you and ask how else they can help.

When you drive around town, homelessness and mental health is a huge issue on its own, where we as a society need to tackle much better, but look around and notice that 9.9 times out of 10, it’s not a Latino begging on the street…and if you do see them on the block, it’s a mother of 3 selling flowers or oranges or a young man selling delicious mango 🥭 in a cup with chamoy, or a day laborer whom in his torn boots and calloused hands is ready to work.

Latinos work for every single penny they receive.

We are not your enemies. We are your family, friends and neighbors.

Somos Americanos!

Ps

Our ancestors were here thousands of years before you! 😘 taken in United States America by @americanos.tv

Dolores Huerta didn’t just help build the labor movement—she lit the flame that still burns today.

She organized when it wasn’t safe. She spoke when others were silenced. She turned struggle into structure and gave power back to the people who built this country with their hands.

“Sí, se puede.” wasn’t just a chant—it was a spark. And that spark became a movement.

Now it’s on us.
To carry it.
To protect it.
To pass it forward louder, stronger, and more united than ever.

The torch isn’t meant to fade—it’s meant to roar.
