Birthday float at Huzzah Valley! ☀️🛶🌊 Celebrating Claudio & Clara — birthday twins, both born on 9/2! 🎂🎉

At the river, we quickly became known as “Walter’s people.” 😂 For those who don’t know Walter is our Olde English Bulldog with a face you definitely don’t forget.

We floated all day and stopped at Rich’s Famous Burgers in Steelville on the way home. My brother even hit the jackpot on the Silver Strike machine and won some quarters, but obviously bet big and lost the em quickly after.

🌵 Thorn: Every time Walter moved in the boat, I was convinced we were going to tip over.

Labor Day weekend 🤍🇺🇸

Started the weekend at Puttshack with some of my favorite people — friends I’ve had since volleyball days growing up! 🏐 So amazing getting everyone together and watching all of our kids grow up way too fast. 🥹

Saturday morning we headed to Truman State to visit Leo ⚽️💙… only to find out his dorm room was INFESTED with bees. 🐝🐝🐝 And their solution? Vacuum them up. 😂 You literally can’t make this stuff up.

Then we watched the Bulldogs play and got the full post-game yelling experience. 😂

Sunday was the perfect end to the weekend — a pool party with my volleyball crew, my dad playing live music 🎶, everyone taking turns singing, and way too many laughs.

So grateful for old friends, growing kids, family, music, and weekends that turn into the best memories. ❤️🇺🇸

Golf, family, friends, Leo home from college, and a little behind-the-scenes tournament action… one of my favorite weekends in a while! ❤️🏌️‍♀️⛳️

Friday kicked it off at the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club, where I got to watch some incredible golf and, even better, catch up with friends I hadn’t seen in way too long. @ashleykrone17

Claudio was working the event, driving announcer John Maginnes around, so we got an extra behind-the-scenes look at the tournament. We even got up close and personal with some of the pros when they ended up hitting off the beaten path. Definitely not something you get to experience every day!

Then Leo came home from college for the weekend ❤️ Saturday night was dinner with my family, followed by Sunday morning breakfast with Leo and his roommate at the 21c Hotel.

And then it was back to Bellerive for the final day of the BMW Championship—thank you @mrscooper710 for the ticket and invite! 🙌🏼 taken in Bellerive Country Club by @amermelstein

Only a few days left in Italy... Today’s adventure brought us to the beautiful town of Otranto, where we wandered the streets, cooled off in the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea, and ended the day with a special dinner celebrating Sheila’s 70th birthday.

One more day left of this Italian trip series! 🇮🇹☀️✨

Happy 70th Birthday, Sheila! 🎉❤️ What better way to celebrate such a special milestone than with Famiglia in Italy!

Today’s adventure took us to Gallipoli, in the south of Italy. 🇮🇹☀️

We spent the morning wandering the streets while the guys worked their magic trying to find us a last-minute boat ride. Safe to say… mission accomplished. 🚤

The afternoon was spent cruising through some of the clearest, most crystal-blue water we’ve ever seen. 🌊✨

After a quick trip back to the hotel to shower, everyone split up for dinner… but somehow we all ended up at the exact same restaurant by accident. 😂

Another day, another full itinerary. 🇮🇹☀️

The family started the morning exploring the beautiful streets of Lecce while Claudio, Leo, and I enjoyed a slower start with lunch at a small Italian farm in Punta Penna before meeting everyone.

Next stop: Guna Beach Club, where we cooled off and enjoyed the sunshine. 🌊

We wrapped up the day with dinner in Brindisi and wandering the streets a bit, ending the night with gelato in San Vito dei Normanni. 🍦

One full day in Puglia 🇮🇹

We started the morning with breakfast at Famiglia before heading to Alberobello. We wandered through the charming streets, snapped photos, and popped into all the cute little shops. 🤍

Next stop: Torre Canne for lunch at La Baia. It was very windy, but fresh seafood with a beach view is never a bad idea. 🌊🐟 After lunch, we took a walk along the beach before making our way to Ostuni.

The White City completely lived up to the hype. We explored the winding streets with stunning views and of course stopped for even more photos. 📸✨

Because one beach wasn’t enough, we made a quick stop for a dip at Spiaggia di Specchiolla, then heading back to San Vito dei Normanni.

For dinner, we went a little off the Italian food path and tried Fuji Japanese Restaurant… Absolutely incredible. 🍣 Then we wrapped up the night with gelato and a live music show in the town square.

It was a full program! Let’s see how much we can fit in tomorrow. 🇮🇹❤️

A Puglia kind of day 🇮🇹☀️

We started the morning with breakfast at Famiglia before heading to Polignano a Mare to snap some family photos in our matching shirts. 📸

The city was absolutely beautiful and the beach was insane, but definitely came with a few surprises… Gorgeous views, turquoise water, zero sand, all rocks, a million people, and scorching hot. We still had a blast.

We explored hidden caves along the coast and Alex and Leo even jumped off a cliff into the Adriatic. Definitely a day we won’t forget.

Then we went to another city called Monopoli to explore. Then Claudio, Leo, and I left the group and found our own little adventure at a beach called Lido Colonia a completely different vibe from the other beach - Quiet and no crowds. 🌊

Finished off with dinner, a nighttime walk through San Vito dei Normanni, and of course… gelato.🍦

Salerno ➡️ San Vito dei Normanni, Puglia 🇮🇹✨

Travel days are always an adventure… and this one definitely kept us on our toes! 😅

We started the day with a 10-minute walk to the bus stop from our Airbnb in Salerno — with ALL of our luggage. Luckily, the bus ride to the Salerno train station was quick — only about 15 minutes.

From there, we hopped on a high-speed train from Salerno to Taranto (about 3.5 hours). We had a quick hour stop in Taranto before continuing on to Bari (another 1.5 hours). Once we arrived, we took a 45-minute metro ride from the train station to the airport to pick up our rental car.

And because traveling in Italy wouldn’t be complete without a little excitement… there was a nationwide train strike happening! 🚆😳 We were so lucky our trains weren’t cancelled. Never a dull moment!

At the airport, we met up with the family and started the final leg of our journey to San Vito dei Normanni, a beautiful town in Puglia. After another 1.5-hour drive, we finally made it to dinner where the rest of the family was waiting for us.

My sister-in-law @biamel18 made the cutest shirts for our vacation because her mom, Sheila (my mother-in-law) is turning 70 next week! 🎉 We spent the evening catching up, celebrating, and hanging out together.

After a very long travel day, we finally made it to the hotel for some much-needed rest.

Puglia… we’re here! Let the adventures begin! 🇮🇹🤍

Spend a day in Salerno with us 🇮🇹☀️

We started the morning with breakfast before taking the train to Beach Sport, and for just €10 it was the perfect way to spend a 100° Italian summer day. Two pools, beach umbrellas, volleyball courts, ping pong, and the beach.

On the train ride home, we met two local boys, Stefano and Alfonso. We spotted Stefano wearing a Brazil jersey, so Claudio started speaking Portuguese… only to find out he was actually Italian. 😂 They were so nice and took us to the local soccer fields so Leo could kick the ball around for a while.

Salerno, you’ve been so good to us. ❤️🇮🇹

Next up, Bari!

Italy: Days 1–3 🇮🇹✈️

What was supposed to be a simple trip quickly turned into an adventure. 🙃 We flew out of STL only to have our flight delayed 3 hours, causing us to miss our connection in Chicago. Instead of flying straight to Rome, we made an unexpected detour through Madrid 🇪🇸 before finally arriving in Italy… where we discovered Claudio’s suitcase decided to stay behind in Spain. 🧳😂

Thankfully, our apartment was adorable (tiny, but adorable!) and in the perfect location. We arrived just in time to watch Spain win the World Cup, so that was a fun way to kick off the trip! ⚽🏆

Day 2 was all about being tourists… but first stop? Zara, of course. 😂 Claudio had no clothes, Leo apparently packed for a different vacation, and I can honestly say it was the most beautiful Zara I’ve ever seen—with a Ferrari sitting right in the middle of the store. 🇮🇹🏎️

After that, we met up with family, watched Leo jump into a pickup soccer game with the locals, and wrapped up the day celebrating Sheila’s birthday a little early at an incredible Italian restaurant. 🍝🥂🎉

On our last day in Rome, we made one more trip to Zara for even more clothes for Claudio and Leo. We’re still patiently waiting for Claudio’s suitcase to catch up with us. Fingers crossed it meets us in Salerno! 🤞
