My first solo show, ๐˜ˆ ๐˜—๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฃ๐˜บ ๐˜ž๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ฌ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ opens tomorrow at Queens Park Gallery. Please join me this Friday for the opening reception from 5:30-8pm.

The way back to the beginning is hidden over time and sinks below the sand. Some steps cannot be retraced; so much is lost to time. Turning in every direction, where is the way back home? In looking back, patterns re-emerge. A Path is Formed by Walking is a reflection on the transformation of pattern making through the deep lens of time. Guided by the rhythms of ancestral craft through vyshyvanka, known commonly as cross stitch and phulkari stitch, which translates to โ€œflower workโ€, Ami Sangha explores, celebrates, and mourns as a form of duality that is a constant undercurrent of her art practice. Intricately handmade work throughout the show calls to question what leisure and labour transform into, from the migrant perspective and into the present. The body of work in this show asks what becomes hidden and disappears through time; how do we retrace our familial histories amongst the current unrest that excludes and extracts? Through the volatility of various firing techniques, transformation and chance have left their everlasting mark on clay as the work itself becomes a relic. As history continues to unravel, what will remain? taken in The Gallery at Queen's Park by @ami.sangha

Quietly for the last year and a half Iโ€™ve been back at school, at Langara where I went almost two decades ago to start my undergrad in art. I took a long hiatus from making, spent a long time wandering down various paths, and at mid life had the realization that a lot of the deep discomfort I was feeling in various areas in my life was from going against the current of where I was feeling pulled to go. Iโ€™ve had a few mystical interventions in my life, but one day when I was working in retail, an older man came up to me and asked me for directions. As he was leaving he said to me, I can see your aura and itโ€™s green, and your job while youโ€™re here on earth is to help people. Today I finished up my last prerequisite, the hardest class I have ever taken, and I pushed myself harder than I knew I could. Through my first art show, through my dadโ€™s illness, while showing up to my various jobs, and Iโ€™m just so proud of myself today. Grad school starts this fall and I canโ€™t wait to work on my masters in art therapy โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉนโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉนโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน by @ami.sangha

March 4-22 at Queens Park Gallery in New Westminster, up for one more week!

Sun 10-2
Mon/Tues closed
Wed/Sat 10-2

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me by stopping in to see my work. This show is incredibly personal to me and itโ€™s taken me nine years with clay to finally understand the medium enough to make this work. Being at an emerging level in the arts at mid life is humbling but I carry on in hopes of making more work to put out there in the world. Having the ability to create is such a racial act right now and will always be. Thank you to the ever talented @hmerenda for taking these exhibition photos for me! taken in The Gallery at Queen's Park by @ami.sangha

work from the most mystical and magical sawdust firing, I am still in awe of the colors and patterns that emerged from such an ancient firing technique, leaving the work up to chance, seeing what emerges, itโ€™s the best feeling. by @ami.sangha
