ON COURAGE is an instant New York Times bestseller. I really can’t believe it. We are in a moment that is unrecognizable to so many of us, flooded with cruelty, callousness, acute injustice. And most of us just want to find a way to hold onto our values.

This was always supposed to be an offering — a small contribution at a moment of deep crisis. We started writing it as this government began rounding up our friends and neighbors. And as we talked to dissidents on five continents, we found one tool after another that each of us can use to put our country on a path that is more just.

ON COURAGE is an invitation to that work. It is a guide that is equal parts practical and spiritual, a resource for anyone, anywhere, who feels the walls of history closing in on them. Through the haze, and through the dark, there is a way forward.

It is not found in the expediency of abandoning core values. It is found by clutching tightly to those values as a lantern in the depths. That’s how we find each other and find the path. That’s how the light gets in. by @amifieldsmeyer

After the 2024 election, I felt a strange disconnect between the familiar rhythms of Washington and the enormity of what was coming. I felt it in myself, too. We needed to learn from people who had already figured out how to confront authoritarianism. by @amifieldsmeyer

Thank you @jstreetdotorg for hosting @israelisforpeacenyc Tamar and me. And thank you, @amifieldsmeyer for your truly excellent and inspiring book about fighting the rise of authoritarianism.

Still processing the Oct 7th vigil. It was extremely intense and inspiring. Proud that we insisted on holding a vigil and honor the deep pain and struggle of both people. While being shouted at with venom and hate on an extremely painful day for our community and people.

Beyond all the noise, media coverage, commentators, influencers, and the endless pro and anti sides, we believe that peace and an end to the killing can bring about a better future for all Israelis and Palestinians from the river to the sea who are paying such an unbearable price. That we must stop the crimes. That we can work across difference. We can mourn together, resist together and fight for democracy, safety, equality and freedom for all of us. Not denial of each other’s humanity and pain. Not in support/justification/minimization of killing children.

And America must lead. I spoke about the leadership of our friend the next member of congress Brad Lander and senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed who believe we need big coalitions to fight for American democracy. That there is a way for Jews and Muslim and all Americans to work together in this critical moment for our democracy. That our freedom depends on us being able to do it. Not walking away from each other. It’s true in America and in
Israel/Palestine.

That another way is possible… by @amifieldsmeyer

What a joy to be in conversation at the Brooklyn Book Festival last week with some of my favorite writers – @jelani1906, @anand_gopal, and my friend and collaborator @julia__angwin. All are people I could listen to all day and who have taught me so much.

Thanks to @menchaca for facilitating a great conversation on movements and dissent. The event was taped by CSPAN and I hope to be able to share a recording soon. Grateful to the @bkbookfest for bringing us together. taken in Brooklyn Borough Hall by @amifieldsmeyer
