WORK IN PROGRESS

I am excited to share my second solo exhibition here in Munich: WORK IN PROGRESS. For the entire month of July, I am taking over the beautiful space at Feierwerk Farbenladen (Hansastraße 31!) to showcase paintings, works on paper, and collages.

True to its name, this exhibition will feature a collection of new works, old pieces, and the "in-between." This show also marks a completely new direction for me, introducing works on paper that merge painting and collage to explore the fusion of unexpected motifs and raw elements.

Starting on opening night, I will begin constructing a big collage right there in the gallery. Throughout July, this piece will continuously evolve, tear, and rebuild itself, transforming every single day. You can step into a visual diary that is literally shifting in real time.

I want to thank everyone who came to visit my exhibition Work In Progress during the whole month of July, and most of all the @feierwerk_farbenladen team for making this happen.

It was a really interesting month for me, having the exhibition and at the same time participating in @theartistandtheothers Artist Summer Seminar, where I learned a lot about being a serious artist nowadays, with great other artists, curators and lecturers.

Some pages from my journal of daily life. A raw mix of drawings, quick thoughts, and, of course, a whole lot of to-do lists.

I’m really drawn to the stark black-and-whiteness of it all: the bold black markers, the simple stripes, and the energy in the abstract lines. I love how different each page composition turns out.

A new series of small-scale collages and small drawings, made over the last month.

I like to think of these as "in-between" images. Standing alone, some of them make absolutely no sense. But when you lay them out side by side, they start to talk to each other. A story begins to emerge, even if it takes time to fully understand what it is. ⌛✨

Details, textures, and fragments from recent works on paper. Lately, my practice has been all about layering symbols, text, raw abstract marks, and collage. Figuring out how they talk to one another.

I am excited to show these works in my upcoming solo exhibition, WORK IN PROGRESS.

Collages made during the last two workshops at @habibi_kiosk ✂️

It was a wonderful opportunity to take a different look at what collage is and can be, how quickly an image can come together, the tactile feeling of cutting paper, and assembling a new figure or image.

Once again, I’m reminded of how important collage is to my practice. The immediacy and the unknown are such an essential part of creating and being an artist. taken in Maximilianstraße by @amit_naamani

The Real Way

As I continue to explore the different combinations of painting, writing, and collage, new and beautiful things are coming out. The visual direction of these pieces is completely new to me.

Uncertainty, I think, is the source of being an artist. These new paper works feel uncertain and in progress, yet somehow finished.

I am continue to work towards a solo exhibition with @feierwerk_farbenladen in the month of July ✨

Finally starting a series that has been on my mind for a long time: a tribute to the artists mentioned in Hank Williams III’s "Country Heroes."

First up: Cash. Larger scale, raw textures, and a lot of history. More to come from this series soon.

A new collage series I have been working on over the last month, collecting papers, inspirations, and past drawings into one coherent image. I see them as a kind of inner map. 🗺️

For the last few years, I viewed collage as a "lesser" format, thinking that painting was the only "real" art. But I’ve come to understand that collage is a fundamental part of my identity as an artist and who I am at the moment. I am now exploring how to bring them both together, letting the drawing, the collage and the painting to live as one.

Working towards my solo gallery show at @feierwerk_farbenladen in July.

Recent pages from an A5 sketchbook:

While these are not full paintings or drawings, I now understand more and more the role of sketchbooks, or small papers, in my work. They are now also a part of the artwork. Once these papers or sketchbooks were, and still are, laying around in the studio, inspiring me. But now I understand that these pages can also be glued into the canvas or onto the paper, being at the same time a drawing and a collage.
