4 Years of Marriage 🤎✨
Our Love Journey: 4 Things Marriage Has Taught Us

Four years in, and one thing we know for sure is that marriage will TEACH you. We’re still growing, still learning, and still becoming one. Here are 4 things marriage has taught us:

1. Prayer is necessary, not optional.
We had to learn that this is God’s marriage, not ours. That means we don’t get to love and honor each other only when it’s easy or when we feel like it. We have to constantly invite God into our marriage and ask Him to teach us how to love each other the way He intended.

2. Respect each other’s individuality.
Marriage makes you one, but it doesn’t erase who you are individually. We each have our own rhythm, our own flow, and little things that make us uniquely us. Don’t spend your marriage trying to change what God created especially when it isn’t hurting your marriage. Sometimes that’s just who your person is. Embrace it! The more you accept each other, the less frustrated you become trying to make each other somebody you’re not.

3. Patience is EVERYTHING.
You are growing together. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a healthy marriage. You’ll get to the destination, but don’t become so focused on where you’re trying to go that you mishandle each other on the way there. Be careful how you love and treat each other while you’re building. The journey matters too.

4. Trust God’s timing.
People will put different timelines, expectations, agendas, and assignments on your marriage. They will say what you should have by now, what you should be doing, where you should be in life. But everything that may be good for somebody else isn’t necessarily God’s timing for you. Seek God together and trust that His timing for your marriage is best.

Four years later, we definitely don’t have it all figured out. But we’ve learned, we’ve grown, we’ve prayed, we’ve forgiven, we’ve laughed, and most importantly we’ve kept choosing each other.
