Freemasons raised £51.1 million for charitable causes and somewhere out there a bloke still thinks we all turn up to lodge to discuss world domination and secret handshakes. Mate, if we’re secretly running the planet, we’re doing a terrible job of cashing in. I swear, becoming a Freemason is the best decision I ever made. There’s nothing like walking into Lodge, seeing all the lads, and instantly feeling like you’ve entered a secret society where everyone’s actually nice, knows what they’re doing, and no one’s arguing about whose turn it is to make the tea.

I love the history, the ritual, the madness of it all — one minute you’re a normal bloke, the next you’re standing there in regalia looking like you’ve been promoted in a medieval HR department. And somehow… it makes perfect sense.

It’s the brotherhood, the laughs, the support, the sense of belonging — and yes, the roast dinners after. I’m not pretending I’m not influenced by gravy.

I proper love it. Makes life better, makes me better, and gives me a reason to iron a shirt more than twice a year.

Just got back from the United Grand Lodge of England — 300+ Freemasons getting their London ranks, all lined up like the world’s poshest army of gentlemen.

The atmosphere? Electric. The regalia? Blinding. The handshakes? Confidential.

And when Warren Duke himself handed out that rank, you could practically hear the Square and Compasses humming. Felt like being knighted by a man who could also sell you a Bentley and quote the Book of Constitutions in Latin.

Proud to see so many brothers recognised — it’s not every day you watch 300 blokes in aprons look that happy without a single BBQ in sight.

I get asked constantly what Freemasonry is actually like, and honestly, it’s probably the most fun, confusing, fascinating thing you’ll ever do.

One minute you’re trying to understand centuries-old traditions and symbolism, the next you’re sat having a laugh with some of the coolest people you’ll ever meet. You meet people from all walks of life, learn things you never expected to learn, and somehow keep discovering another layer to the whole thing.

It’s part history, part tradition, part mystery and a bloody good excuse to meet up with your mates.

Deep inside the incredible United Grand Lodge of England, surrounded by some of the most beautiful architecture, symbolism and Masonic history you could ever hope to see, there’s a fascinating old engraving from 1736 that tells the story of just how far Freemasonry had already spread across Europe and America. Lodges were popping up everywhere, with many brethren meeting in pubs, taverns and coffee houses, and the fraternity was gathering serious momentum. But here’s the bit that really grabs me: right at the top of the engraving is Richard Steele, the famous writer and publisher, almost appearing to sit at the head of this growing Masonic world. And nobody can say for certain why. There’s no surviving record proving Steele was a Freemason, although there are plenty of clues that he knew the fraternity well. So why did the artist put him there? Was Steele a Mason whose membership simply disappeared into history, or was there another reason?
