10 things I wish I knew before joining fashion college 🎀🧵

1. Deadlines will humble you. 😭
The deadline pressure can be exhausting, and sometimes you end up submitting whatever work you’ve managed to finish — not because it’s your best work, but because you simply have to submit. But somehow, that pressure also pushes you to think faster and become more creative.

2. Sleepless nights are part of the experience.
Some of your best work will happen at 2 AM with coffee, fabric scraps and a submission due in a few hours. 😭

3. Inspiration is everywhere, comparison shouldn’t be!

Learn from the people around you without losing your own creative voice.

You’ll see someone doing something better than you. Instead of letting it discourage you, use it as motivation to push your creativity further.

4. College only teaches you the syllabus.
The rest is self-learning. Research, experiment, practise, explore and learn things outside what is taught in class.

5. If you’re not genuinely interested in fashion, don’t join.
It’s not just pretty clothes and moodboards. It takes passion, patience, hard work and A LOT of self-motivation.

6. Networking!!
Talk to people, connect with seniors, faculty, designers, photographers, stylists and other creatives. You never know where one connection can lead.

7. Use your time wisely.
College gives you access to opportunities, people, resources and creative spaces that you might not get this easily later.

8. Your creativity is your biggest advantage.
Don’t just do what the brief asks. Experiment, try new things and create work that actually represents YOU.

9. Your classmates can become your future network.
Today’s fashion student could be tomorrow’s designer, stylist, photographer, makeup artist or entrepreneur. Build genuine relationships.

10. Your degree is only the beginning.
Your portfolio, internships, skills, experiences, connections and the work you create outside the syllabus will shape your career just as much as your college education.
