Here's another Saturday, so here's another writing prompt!

Show us a character via the contents of a suitcase they've packed for a trip.

What have they included? What have they forgotten? Is the suitcase well-ordered? Or is it a thrown-together chaos?

If a customs officer finds one particular item 'questionable', how will your character explain this item away?

Not only was Career Story Nights, The Queer Edition, an amazing evening to participate in and to experience – it also delivered a beautiful writing prompt!

From memory or imagination, write to answer the questions:
‘What can your work life (or your character's work life) learn from the way you love? And what can your love life (or your character's love life) learn from the way you work?’

Reaping the rewards of letting go… So, I recently dreamed up an idea for a new, live, talk show-like event format called Read, Write, (Re)Connect, to stage at @the_book_nook_amsterdam. I would host with three panelists speaking to each of these pillars, but the whole thing would be a broad conversation. And I would create some specific ‘audience connection’ moments as well. Three brilliant guests quickly agreed to join me: @zannilouise, @sometimes_k8 and @monicahayauthor.

Cut to last Sunday evening before our Tuesday event, when I was hit out of nowhere, with a sudden, serious illness. (Thanks, I’m recovering well.) By Monday it was clear I was in no shape to host. Hugely disappointing for me. But then I thought hang on, does it have to be disappointing for EVERYONE? So I asked my guests if, using my framework, they could simply proceed without me?

And the utter champions they all are, they agreed to and I’m so happy they did! My three guests-now-hosts carried on an in-depth discussion with the audience about the value of writing, reading and community in today’s world. People connected, so much so that conversations continued long into the coolness of the evening at Bar Louis across the way, afterwards.

Thanks to all who attended and participated, my always amazing husband who helped with everything, @uniqueartbymelvdp for photos, and particularly to Anna @lassieunderoath who made an audio recording. Once that’s ready I’ll release it on my Substack. And… watch this space – there will definitely be a Second Edition of Read, Write, (Re)Connect happening before too long!

Oh, and yes, a new 6 week edition of Writers’ Stretch & Tone, is also commencing at The Book Nook on Monday July 6! Stay cool y'all! taken in The Book Nook by @amsterdamwriters

Writers' Stretch & Tone: Strengthen and invigorate all of your writer muscles.
Commence 6 weeks in-person June 22 at @the_book_nook_amsterdam OR commence 8 weeks June 30 online.

Rainbow Writing: A space for queer folk and allies to express & explore, in safety. Commence 8 weeks online July 09. This workshop co-facilitated with Meadow Jones PhD.

All workshops include (optional) manuscript revision.
