As I wrap up my time at FlareFlow, I am reflecting back on surely one of the major highlights of my career thus far: planning this awards show with my closest colleagues and now lifelong industry friends. We set out to make this live awards show with @verticaldramalove because like so many of us who have worked in “verticals” since the “early days” (aka 2022), we were craving the validation and proof that what we were doing, while new and different, was just as legitimate as any type of filmmaking. Many of us speak on panels, podcasts and to publications about this “crazy new form of entertainment” and we wanted a night that was just about this community, the ones who “get it”. But this awards show was never about trying to fit in with the old guard: it was about celebrating all of us who have stuck it out, elevated the space and see the future of what it means to make content. We wanted something that felt Hollywood-adjacent but was still very distinctly our own thing. Because that is very much the brand of verticals 😉 I won’t wax poetic on what we all do and the nitty gritty details: you can read about that in any article about this pocket of the industry. But what I can do is say how grateful I am to the people I’ve met over the course of my journey at FlareFlow and how much I will miss them as I embark on my new chapter. I am so proud of what we all have done in this space. This night was just a reminder that bigger things are yet to come and we are ready for it ✨ by @amsullz

Had the pure pleasure of working on season one of @notdeadyetabc from shooting the pilot in February all the way until September when I was simply too large to go to work anymore. Working on this show during my first pregnancy was such a profoundly positive experience; I was so lucky to be surrounded by caring, thoughtful coworkers who never made me feel bad about all the weird symptoms I felt the need to share with them. I got my first Story By credit on the finale episode and I made some other super intelligent contributions (see last pic). Watch our hysterical AND heartwarming show on ABC & Hulu on February 8th and fall in love with this incredible cast!!! ❤️❤️ taken in Fox Studio Lot by @amsullz

Our girl is FOUR today! Smart, sassy and silly. A perfectionist with a wild side. The little girl who will march up to anyone on the playground and introduce herself. Who wakes up her baby sister every day with “hi lovebug!!!” Who loves to socialize and perform but also is quiet and reflective and asks big questions like “Mom, what do I do if a snake comes into my room tonight?” We love you, Reesie - you are so unique, so loved and we are so proud of you ❤️ by @amsullz

Had a blast speaking a few weeks back about the rise of microdramas in Hollywood. From ReelShort to DramaBox to My Drama to us at COL Media, vertical shows are bringing life back to the film industry and forging a new form of (data-backed) entertainment. Coming from television and film writing in the traditional sense, I was initially so against the concept of “engineering” a television show and relying on data to make entertainment. It felt like the death of art. But the more I find my legs in this world, the more I experiment with micro-innovations in my writing and in my development process, the more I am finding the art in a data-driven approach to storytelling. When people ask what I do, I tell them “I write two-minute-episode shows that you can only watch on your phone.” They often quote a crazy title that they guilty-pleasure watched like “My Alpha Brother’s Billionaire Mistress” or what have you and I smile and say “Yes, like that.” Because yes, these shows are ridiculous! They’re escapism. They’re easy to watch. They touch on tropes that you KNOW the ending to. And when I started in this new form of media, I had to rely on salacious “clickbait” techniques to cut through the noise of online traffic, just like everyone else. The goal was eyeballs and thumb-stops. No one knew what these weird little shows were. Were they scams?? Were they legit?? But our platforms are now widely known and we can finally spread our wings in terms of story development and plot lines that we greenlight. It’s a unique job to merge narrative writing with performance marketing. And selling a product like this well takes a lot of practice and a lot of failure. But I can proudly say that since my start in microdramas to now, we as a group have evolved massively. Is there room for improvement? Of course. But the ceiling is high and this is just the beginning. by @amsullz
