summer 24_museum

situated atop the lush, quiet preserve of Inwood Park at the lower end of Vine Street, a rare getaway from its urban surrounding, the structure suspends itself from the crest of the hill, overlooking the city and defining itself as a bridge between uptown and downtown. a sister institution to the CAM, the site’s historical and topographical context boasts some of the city’s most recognizable features, including older Victorian era buildings, and steep hills harnessing the sprawling panoramic views below. the superstructure of the museum enables a bold cantilever expressing itself as it suspends a schedule of glass and metal panels. vast curtain walls are strategically placed in order to take advantage of the best natural lighting during morning, afternoon and evening time. at nearly 36,000 square feet, with over 15,000 square feet dedicated to gallery space, the open plan and truss system allows for display of a varied collection, with the cascading roof lines controlling the light and interior scale.

summer 24_model for a museum

1’-0” = 1/2” scale section model for an industrial museum + discovery center. completed as a study in traditional steel architectural tectonics, this model experimented with scale, spacial experience, and construction assemblies within realistic parameters.

fall 23_community arts center

located in Cincinnati’s historic Over the Rhine neighborhood, the Community Arts Center, nestled into a small plot in the heart of the city block, seeks to serve as a sanctuary blending arts, leisure, and learning. the first level is setback into the plot, creating alleyways accessing the rear sculpture garden and back street, or the library. stacked atop within 3 stories include a performance space, art galleries, meeting rooms (both large and small) and an administrative office. the steel and concrete core is wrapped in a glass plate curtain wall and encased in a twisting slatted screen system - adjusted to the programs behind - diffusing the natural light. the interior is then divided into spaces by choreographed of wooden and glass partial height partitions.

fall 23_public restroom

based in cincinnati’s historic over-the-rhine neighborhood near the findlay market, this quickly deployable lightweight steel vessel serves the high demand for accessible public-lavatory space. contrasting the traditional heavy brick buildings of the area, the bathroom opts for a sleeker look while pulling from the elements of nearby steel construction and local contemporary language. clad in large panels of steel and glass, the monolithic form diffuses the intricate construction, appearing less industrial from the primary approach. translucent fenestration captures sun and skylight in the form of skylights and floor to ceiling plates, while the general plan is organized in a system of individual stalls and shared sanitizing space, emphasizing safety, privacy, accessibility, and acceptance

fall 23_pavilion

located in cincinnati’s burnet woods, a dense woodland, flanking the north side of the university. this timber framed and stacked-stone pavilion was an exploration in the tectonics and joinery of natural materials, as well as the programs involved in pavilions and performance spaces. inspired heavily by Peter Eisenman’s rotating and fragmented grids - the pre-framed floor plates were shifted in exponential increments by 1.5’. the retractable canopies, engineered from recycled sails - follows the regulating lines of the grid, diffusing the harsh southern sun, resulting in a serene and sustainable entertainment experience

inspired by a fusion of traditional Japanese architectural elements, primarily shoji, fusuma, + the incorporation of modern materials and technology. utilizing strict detailing and attention to light sources, blending natural colors and industrial color palettes, + temporary or permanent thresholds, the end result is a rationally assembled, lightweight, linear gallery space
