One of the highlights of my 2024 was @bindlestifffamilycirkus 's Open Stage in October. Thank you--to Bindlestiff, the crew at @citytechcuny, all my co-performers, my friends who came to watch, and the strangers who came up to express that my artistic intent was received--for such a beautiful night and a wonderful, heartening experience.

'Starchild' is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite things, "Ghost Quartet", which I highly recommend you check out, get confused by, read up on, become obsessed with--as I did. There are a lot of ways in which we love and hurt one another, and sometimes ourselves. I found that in a time of disappointment and questioning, this song spoke to resilience, determination, and a fundamental underlying drive to make something of it all--because we must--because it is who we are.

In this piece I challenged myself to focus on fluidity and include shapes that have typically been challenging for me. I also hoped to bring some nostalgia to those old enough to appreciate cassette tape players, and maybe educate some of those too young to know them ;)

From the last time I performed aerial in Feb. This was an important step on my artistic journey: the first time I interspersed vocals with aerial, rather than performing them sequentially. Thank you to @aerial.x.jake for traveling it with me (and ⭕). Thanks also to @the_homogenius for helping with the intro🕺.

🎥@lolyuchen -- ty & 💖 always

There are so many more steps yet and I'm excited to be taking the next one with @ari_salaam at @cirkusmoxie on 9/18 and 9/19.

🥳🎪CSAW is so excited to welcome a new Board member to the team! Amy Li will be joining CSAW as our Strategic Marketing Officer! @amy.ably

✨Why is Amy (she/her and they/them) joining CSAW?

Across her years of engagement with circus arts, both locally and abroad, Amy has come to believe that, as scrappy and resourceful as circus artists are and always have been, at a certain point, we need (and deserve) a supportive ecosystem of practical and network resources to embark on truly significant work. Moreover, in conjunction with her personal long standing beliefs and reflections around systemic social inequities, she believes that we each have a responsibility to work towards a better experience for future circus artists. Amy is looking forward to leveraging skills from her educational and corporate professional background to work with CSAW in filling some of these gaps in the circus world and contribute to a rising tide that lifts all boats.

✨More about Amy:

Amy is a multidisciplinary artist whose current performance practice combines vocal and aerial (singing aerialist). She also stage manages and helps with tech/lines for circus shows, teaches/tutors, and is a @cipalive fellow with producorial ambitions. She is personally interested in creative/unique works, pushing for more integrated collaboration between circus and other performance art forms (theater, music, dance, etc.), and ways to promote circus to the general public.

We are so thrilled to be expanding our team here at CSAW and we have another exciting new board annoucnement coming soon!

We've officially sold out closing! We have no words. 5/7 shows sold out, second weekend completely, and 90% of total tickets comped, discounted, or sold! We're truly blessed and want to thank you all.

Every dollar will go to the performers, crew, venue, and costs for this specific production. From grants, donations, tickets & merch, it's all come together to help make art happen. So grateful for this community and our chosen families.

This isn't the last family dinner. If we don't see you tonight, we'll see you at the next reunion 🫶🏻
