So this is me, trying to get the algo to work. I’ve seen a few authors post about having a manuscript guide pinned to their page. It can help for publishers, or if you’re staunch indie, it can help with the algorithm to connect you. So let’s give it a go!

I totally forgot to add an acknowledgment to my insta! I have one on my website and even in my place of work, and now there is one here too. I love the story telling traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people and all Indigenous cultures, and I honour and respect that tradition through acknowledging the lands on which I live and use as the backdrop to my stories. My stories are distinctly Australian, and are based on Gadigal land and Nyangbul Country and the broader Bunjalung Nation. Australia has about 500 to 600 Aboriginal nations, or countries. Which is grouped into about 250 languages. It’s a beautiful culture to learn about, and if you are curious about the different nations and place names, check out @aiatsis map of Australia. #amymoorewrites #aboriginalandtorresstraitislander #firstnations #storytelling #originalstorytellers by @amy.moore.writes

Hi I’m Amy. I’m a Gemini and I like biting the ends off of Tim Tams and sucking tea through them like a straw and then eating the gooey biscuit like the hot mess I am. How about you? #australianindieauthor #amymoorewrites #australianauthor #aussieromanceauthor #indiewriter by @amy.moore.writes

Dudes! It’s tax time. Well, it is if you have ADHD and forgot to lodge. I did my taxes. And my socialist senses are angry! My girl energy is angry. My soul is screaming at everyone to eat the rich.
It’s all good. I don’t want to be one of those complainy ppl. But omg dudes. The rich get richer and the creatives and educators and low level health care workers get fucked. Did you know in australia teachers, as a whole, pay more tax than the mining industry? Don’t get me started on disability rights! Okay dudes. Ted talk rant over. Back to my normal slutty content. I’ve been saying that I am a contemporary romance author. But, last night, while talking all my thoughts at my husband, like I usually do on a Friday with a wine, I told him about my new discovery of literary romance. He told me he thought that was my genre all along.

I knew about literary fiction, but not literary romance. There’s romantasy, dark romance, dystopian, rom com, etc and I fit mostly into contemporary. Because I write stories that are of the now, and very real life. The characters could be me or you. (I’d love to try dark or fantasy but I actually suck at that).

But! I’m struggling to fit into tropes. And I nearly didn’t have a HEA. And my characters have complete psych profiles. And there is a deeper level of a story about personal self discovery and neurodivergence happening. And there’s all this wanky stuff in it, like books and artworks that explain their inner thoughts.
But it’s slutty as hell. So much sex. And it’s not beautifully worded like an Austen book. No curly twirly phrases. It’s almost factual, with very dry Australian wit.
So! WTF am I writing?!?
Then I discovered upmarket romance. But that sounds truly wanky as hell. Do I market myself as an upmarket girl? I sound like an 80s hooker (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). Blergh! (Hands thrown up in confusion).

In a bit of wholesome fun the beautiful @r.b.holmes has named some tiny baby chickens after some larger than life authors. So here is the introduction to the author flock no one asked for, but we kinda all need.

I loved this story by @leesaronaldwrites, I read it in a day. Another great Australian romance recommendation from @annavalentiwrites. This one got me in the parenting feels. First time parenting is hard. And all the loneliness and mucking up and guilt and fear and joy that Poppy was going through got me. But beneath the enemies to lovers was a growing up- coming of age story. For Poppy and her daughter. Of learning who you are deep down and authentically being that person for yourself and your baby. Another great Aussie romance story.

I’ve left the state! I’m in Tasmania. I found a seahorse on the beach. I saw a seal in the ocean. I’m staying in a sandstone house built in 1850 (that’s old for Australia dudes…) And I drew a naked lady in a pub. It’s been wonderful! I haven’t done life drawing in about 20 years, and I still love it. Naked lady’s for the win! by @amy.moore.writes

I stumbled upon this film yesterday. And it was so lovely that I searched it up and realised it was adapted from a book and I bought the book and now I am reading the book by @toni_jordan_writer. I’m not sure if the story resonated because I too am a counter, but not to this extent with OCD. I’ve just always counted angles and corners and sides. Mine is more of a constantly thinking thing, not a compulsion to keep safe, but it is calming. The story was sweet but also an insight into loving someone with mental health issues. The anxiety, the outbursts, the hiding, the loudness, the overcompensation. I just really loved it. And can’t wait to read the book.
