Three weeks ago today, on my birthday, I donated my kidney to a stranger @ucdavishealth . I chose May 9th because it was the day my mom gave me life and I wanted to help someone have the chance regain their own life back. I don’t know anything about the recipient other than my kidney is working beautifully in its new home. When the transplant team told me, I cried. Knowing that someone is getting another chance to hug their family and live their best life is worth the tiny bits of pain. I am healing and feeling more like myself as the days pass. And if I could, I would do it again…in a heartbeat. 💚 I am blessed with a mom who supports me in all that I do and a bestie @kymosmom who came from Washington to help take care of me. @renalwarrior2016 @heyclaaire @jennyp_727 @_isabella__perez_ thank you for taking time to visit me. This is a very late post…but I want to share some of the fun we had two weeks ago! Trying to find the right words and pictures (I have so much more!) has been a bit overwhelming. But I need you all to know this…The gratitude and love I feel for this community is bigger than anything I have ever experienced. I have always had a small group of friends. I was too shy most of my life. But there is something about @themissionhqfitness and @pedalcyclingalameda family that lets me come out of my shell. And makes me feel loved and supported at every moment. THANK YOU! Thank you for absolutely everything! My heart exploded so many times this day. And sharing this experience with all of you has made it even more special. #GiveLife #LivingDonor #OrganDonorIt’s National Donate Life ( @donatelifeamerica ) month! Did you know that you can donate one of your kidneys and live a normal life with just one? I didn’t until I met my close friend Wilson Du (@renalwarrior2016 ). Because of his story, I decided that I wanted to be a living kidney donor in 2019. For me the process of becoming a living donor came with its challenges. First, I was overweight. On top of that, the pandemic hit. As time passed, I lost the weight and the world started to get back to normal. There were so many medical tests to take, but other than a slight poke for blood tests, they were all painless. After a second round of testing and a whole lot of determination, I passed with flying colors. Wilson was lucky enough to have two potential donors, me and Amy Hewitt (@ibobble )😊. I was not “picked” to be his donor, but still wanted to help. Wilson’s successful transplant and Amy Hewitt’s successful recovery solidified my decision to become a donor. Upon speaking with Wilson & Amy, she mentioned a local first responder who was in need of a kidney. I knew it was time.I called UC Davis and declared that I wanted to be a donor for this first responder. Given that my tests were recently done, I had no doubt about my approval. Only question was, if our blood type was compatible. It was not. Not an issue though due to the paired exchange program (a program that matches incompatible donor-recipient pairs with other pairs, and they “exchange” donors). So on May 9th, 2023 ( My Birthday🥳), a little less than a month away, I will be donating my kidney. I was given life on that day and now I can give back and help two people regain theirs. And although I know of the first responder, he has no idea about me. If you are in the position to donate, please consider it. From @anthony_garnica: “There’s no better feeling than coming home. 🇺🇸🥊Today, I had the honor of walking in the Alameda 4th of July Parade—the longest Independence Day parade in the country. Carrying my WBC and NBA titles through some of streets I represent was a reminder of who I step into the ring for every time! The best part wasn’t walking with the belts. It was seeing familiar faces, feeling the support of the community that has been behind me since day one, and especially meeting all the kids out there!!! 💪 June 2026 • 1,000 Push-Up Challenge Complete! ❤️🖤Today, we celebrated an incredible accomplishment by our Warriors at The Mission HQ! Throughout the month of June, these amazing Warriors committed themselves to completing 1,000 push-ups through consistency, determination, and teamwork.Every push-up represented perseverance, strength, and the commitment to keep showing up—not only for themselves, but for one another. We couldn’t be prouder of every Warrior who accepted the challenge and earned a certificate.The Mission HQ Warrior Program is more than just a fitness class—it’s a community built on encouragement, resilience, and hope. Our free Warrior classes are designed for individuals living with chronic illnesses, older adults, those recovering from injury, and anyone seeking a supportive community where fitness is adapted to meet them where they are.What makes this program even more special is that it is made possible by the incredible members of The Mission HQ. Membership dues help fund the Warrior Program, allowing us to offer these classes free of charge. 🥹OUR HEARTS ARE FULL OF GRATITUDE! AUSTIN @tank_al98 JUST RECEIVED HIS #TRANSPLANT LAST NIGHT 06.22.26!!! He started this journey 475lbs on dialysis. Worked his tail off when the task felt impossible. But day after day he showed up. Step by step he endured each day knowing that he will one day make it!! That day has come!!! We Love you so much! There are moments in life when you realize you are part of something truly special, and being a part of Anthony Garnica’s team is one of those moments for me. This team was built through pure faith, loyalty, belief, and the shared goal of helping Anthony become everything he is capable of becoming.Wilson, Danny, and I do this because we believe in Anthony wholeheartedly. We believe in his talent, his heart, his discipline, and the incredible future ahead of him. Every early morning, every late night, every sacrifice, every ounce of energy poured into this journey is done because this young man is worth it.We are also incredibly grateful for Virgil and Jeff, who welcomed us in like family and believed in Anthony the same way we always have. They saw his potential, his heart, and the fighter he is becoming. They are guiding Anthony through the biggest fight of his career. What an amazing Event that meant so much more than a Competition. Donor Games by National Kidney Registry is about choosing life, giving life, and giving hope!3rd Annual Donor Games Western Regional's was held in Alameda, CA, April 25, 2026. With 74 competitors, this event had athletes from local and national gym communities. Amongst the general competitors also included Living Kidney Donors, Kidney and Liver recipients, and even Dialysis Patients.
