I make other people seen for a living.

25 years of putting founders on TV, in magazines, and in celebrity hands. But for most of my life, I wasn’t seen myself.

Ironic, right?

A few years ago my mentor asked what I do. I said, “I do PR.”

She looked at me and said, “Why are you hiding behind two letters?”

She wasn’t asking about my elevator pitch. She was asking why I was still hiding. After everything.

So this weekend I stood on a stage in Phoenix and told my own story. All of it. Then I looked at a room full of women and said what she said to me:

Go be seen.

Nobody hands you permission. You give it to yourself.

I spent 25 years making other people visible. I had no idea how to be seen myself.

It started at five years old, in my Easter bonnet, running around my grandma’s house, giggling and full of fire.

“Keep it down.”

And I did. I kept it down through every relationship, every room that told me to shrink. And then I found my career, where I could finally be too much — but I channeled every bit of it into making other people the star. I got really good at invisible.

But here’s what nobody told me, and what I needed to hear at 25, at 32, at 45.

You were never too much. The world just hadn’t caught up to you yet.
