Yesterday was Drew’s 100 m breaststroke prelims race at the US Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. He finished with a time of 1:02.18 and taking 3rd in his heat, 48th overall out of 84.

He was so happy yo be able to represent OSHY (even advocating to officials to be able to wear his Y cap minutes before his race) and swim on his sport’s “biggest stage”. Sharing this moment with family, coaches, teammates and everyone watching back home made the whole thing even sweeter!

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of his journey! 🐬 🚀 🦡 🇺🇸

Well done Drew. You are capable of amazing things! We love you! by @amygaerthofner

This needs a permanent spot on my IG.

Still beaming about how amazing this moment was for our entire family. Drew swam fast enough to qualify for Olympic Team trials at his future “home” at Wisconsin 🦡. It was so suspenseful at the end of his race…the board showing the back half split and after what seemed like a lifetime the total finish time. He got it and everyone went crazy. One of the happiest moments to have experienced as a parent of an athlete.

Next week will be his swim at trials in Indy. Thank you to everyone who has supported Drew and our family. His friends are amazing, his coaches believe in him and we are all just so dang proud of him.

Happy graduation day Drew! The best is yet to come. Your dedication in the classroom and in the pool has gotten you here. We are so proud of you! by @amygaerthofner

Last night Drew completed his high school swim career at the WIAA State Championships. The meet started off with the 200 medley relay and the guys throwing down a NHS team record time of 1:33.96 - a record that will be hung up at the pool and will most likely stick around for a long time. The guys orchestrated perfect relay exchanges and amazing swims. Drew leading off with back (22.85) then Tanner in breast (26.04) Julian in fly (23.07) and Burke (22.0). The relay took 4th and each swimmer earned their first medal of the meet.

Next event was Drew’s 50 Freestyle - the “splash and dash”. Drew took off the blocks strong and had a fast down, his back was just as fast but got out touched at the wall by 5 hundredths. He is State Runner Up taking the silver medal with a time of 20.29 - the 8th fastest time in tournament history.

The 200 freestyle relay came after break. The guys looked primed and ready. Julian lead off with a 21.60, then Tanner went 22.11, Burke 22.54 and Drew anchored with a 19.73 😳 - the fastest 50 split of the meet. The team took 5th and another trip to the podium! 1:25.98 another team record.

The very last individual event of the meet is the 100 breaststroke - Drew’s main event. It’s a tough event to begin with especially hard after performing your fastest races just a short time beforehand. Drew took off and had an epic race. He touched the wall at 54.37 for the silver medal. Clocking the 6th fastest time recorded at the state meet!

Yesterday was nothing short of amazing. I got to enjoy the sheer pleasure of watching my son swim. Sharing it with family and friends made it even more special. Some tears were shed, but were overpowered by cheers and and pure joy. My favorite was seeing the guys smile as they left the deck together, some even gave a fist pump or the Wisconsin “W” - oh and Papa Raeth and Bonnie, Julian’s grandpa and all the coaches on deck jumping up and down celebrating amazing swims. There is nothing else like it.

I can’t wait for Drew to come home on the bus today, and hear all about how it was for him and the team.

I’ll remember this meet forever - the swims, the cheering, and best ever wet hug from Drew! by @amygaerthofner

NHS Winterfest 2025 - laughing all the way. 🤍🥶 by @amygaerthofner

So excited for this kid and what he can accomplish at the next level!

“Wisconsin’s men’s team placed 4th at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, maintaining the same ranking as the previous season. Gaerthofner’s arrival will be timely, as the top 100 breaststroke time last year (52.62) for the team belonged to Truman teDuits, who has since graduated. The second-fastest time (52.81) belonged to Andrew Benson, who will have graduated by the time Gaerthofner arrives.” by @amygaerthofner
